RPSharman
I've got to watch more of those series. They're great. Wonder if the sound guy bought the meal!
Matthias Richter
Zaxcom got some hot products to offer
John Blankenship
These are so good. For those who don't know, The coffee mate (pun alert) in this episode, Bob Einstein (who played the character Super Dave Osborne), is Albert Brooks' brother. Albert Brooks' birth name was Albert Lawrence Einstein.
RPSharman
I had no idea they were related, but can see it now. Both are funny guys!
old school
Their brother Cliff runs a successful LA ad agency and Mychal Smith, an LA boom op is their brother in law. How's that for a small world. Also I boomed Albert Brooks 1st feature "Real Life"... and did many commercials with Cliff and his Agency. I even did a few "Super Dave" spots. Toy Robot
"...Let the sound guy give ya the money, cause he's gonna have a lawsuit he's never seen in his life." I literally laughed out loud. Love this. So funny!

RPSharman
I wonder why he would ever put the tx to his balls... that sounds uncomfortable When you're that old, there's enough slack to make a little pouch for the transmitter. Constantin
When you're that old, there's enough slack to make a little pouch for the transmitter. Oh great, that's an image I'll never get out of my head!
James Arnold
Haha! Great sound on the in-car stuff. No seatbelt rub!

TimPitot
The sound on that whole clip was really good.
glenn
The sound on that whole clip was really good. The sound was recorded on a Zaxcom TRX900AA. It is the only way that would work for Jerry. Martin Kelly is the sound supervisor and is one of my sound mixer heroes. Glenn
fieldmixer
Why is it the only way it would work for Jerry? Specifically, is it a logistics thing?
John Blankenship
I imagine because there are a lot of driving shots with video captured by 3 GoPros on the windshield and sound recorded on a TRX900AA on each talent. That way there's no crew in the car (which is not even feasible in some of the vehicles), and a chase vehicle doesn't need to hug their bumper to receive sound. That's my guesstimation. RPSharman
It's a great solution. Wearing the recorder. It's a great piece of gear I wish I owned. But not if you're going to keep it on your balls, I guess.
Jack Norflus
I imagine because there are a lot of driving shots with video captured by 3 GoPros on the windshield and sound recorded on a TRX900AA on each talent. That way there's no crew in the car (which is not even feasible in some of the vehicles), and a chase vehicle doesn't need to hug their bumper to receive sound. That's my guesstimation. That would be correct. Several people have adapted this workflow including Rado who does the same thing on several shows that he works on. Jam the TC on the transmitter. Talent gets wired. Start the internal recorder. Receive the audio when talent is in range. And when they drive off get a tuna sub and smile. Collect the cards - and you have clean drop out free audio from each person. Just keep the transmitter away from your balls.
Constantin
Well, "clean" also depends on the mic placement. And with this work flow it's difficult to monitor the audio. But it worked out well, so... Of course it helped that Bob Einstein doesn't wear a seatbelt
TimPitot
I've done a lot of work exactly like that. No Zaxcom radios required. I appreciate the convenience of having a built in recorder, but there's more than one way to skin a cat. And while we are throwing phrases around, it's not about the arrows, it's about the archer (TM SMM). But thanks for using this thread as yet another marketing message for Zaxcom. Constantin
Yes, the "bag in the trunk" approach would've worked just as well. Except when Bob gets out of the car. It'll be difficult then. Although there's no audio from him there, I think.
