BAB414
In my experience, most clients seem to expect to pay a half-day rate for labor per travel day. But what about the kit rental for those days? Full kit fee since the gear is unavailable to anyone else on those travel days? Or is half a rental day the convention? Michael Miramontes
I get full day on kit for the reasons you specified. I also been getting full day pay. I guess its one of those "do they really have money and are being cheap" or " is the travel really worth it" type decisions you'll have to make. If I was being sent to some tropical island doing sports illustrated swimsuit stuff then I'd be happy with subway sandwich. =) If it's commercial/tv work then they usually have money. This will be apparent when the Producer is being brought his/her starbucks on set.
Derek Mansvelt
I start on a full day for both and negotiate from there but generally its full day on gear and half day on labour up to six hours travel and full day thereafter
cory
I try to get full kit rate on travel days, but sometimes production pushes back pretty hard. +1 on pretty much everything Michael said
studiomprd
cory: " I try to get full kit rate on travel days, " on travel gigs, there are multiple days, so you are sometimes sort-of competing with (or, IOW, dealing with) 4 or 5 day weeks
Wandering Ear
It's common for me to get full day labor (sometimes half) and no kit on travel days. Every job is different. It never hurts to ask for it, you'll never get it if you don't ask.
MatthewFreedAudio
I charge a full day for travel unless I can book another gig for that same day (and how often does that happen?). The longer the gig the more flexible I am on kit rental for the travel day. I firmly believe it should be a full day pay for both time and gear because it's not like you can make money from another gig on the same day. But, you are up against some companies like LSC or VER offering one-day weeks on gear rental and people willing to say they're local in some city that barely has a gas station. Jason A
I also usually get a full labor rate for travel, but rarely kit.
ProSound
If it is a driving travel day less then 4 hours. I have no problem with a half day plus mileage. If I am flying it is a full labor day if I am flying and shooting the same day I am on the clock when I leave my house. I rarely get kit on my travel days
Jeremy Childers
Travel is a full day always, I am more flex with kit rental, usually I do a prep fee for breaking down and building fee for travel days..(I do 75%) of my kit rental Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
