bmfsnd Posted May 20, 2014 Report Posted May 20, 2014 Hi Everyone, I'm getting "Media I/O" or "Unknown Media" Errors on the 633 with these approved 16GB Delkin 700X CF Cards. I have two, and the 633 doesn't like either of them. I know KZ or VB numbers have issues, but both cards have the P/N: CF16AJZBR-XX000-P They worked for first few runs... but all of a sudden, do not. Tried recording straight tone, single ISO, mix, or both - Media I/O error under 3 minutes When I try to (re)format - Media I/O error or it locks up. The weird thing is both cards run just fine in my 664. Straight tone to mix, aux, and 6 ISOs for an hour. Any ideas? I could send these back but it just seems like my 633 doesn't like 'em. Quote

Ken Wilkinson Posted May 21, 2014 Report Posted May 21, 2014 Those cards are no longer approved media. Try the 1000x cards. Quote

Stick with the 1000x cards, no trouble whatsoever. Delkin Devices CF700X; UDMA6; 16 GB **See Note 1 Note 1: Sound Devices has worked directly with Delkin to identify an intermittent Media I/O issue with newer Delkin CF 500x and CF 700x cards. Delkin has confirmed that a recent change to these two cards is most likely responsible for the errors. Cards containing KZ in the serial number are susceptible to this issue and should not be used. Cards containing VB in the serial number will function correctly and are approved. Deklin CF 1000x and 1050x cards do not experience this issue and may continue to be used. Quote

Ken Wilkinson Posted May 21, 2014 Report Posted May 21, 2014 Thanks Canan. If you read my original post, you'll see this doesn't apply to my newer P/N card. I did read it. The cards have known issues. I would stay away from that particular one. Quote

SD: " Cards containing VB in the serial number will function correctly and are approved. " why are you fighting this... why haven't you called SD ?? Quote
bmfsnd Posted May 21, 2014 Author Report Posted May 21, 2014 XX seems to be a new suffix or batch. Neither SD or Delkin has heard about this, and are looking into it. I'll be filing an RMA with Delkin anyway. No fights - just reaching out to see if anyone else has experienced this. Quote

judykarp Posted September 13, 2014 Report Posted September 13, 2014 I may be posting a little late for this discussion but I just had a media error yesterday recording on my Sound Devices 633 with a Delkin CF 700 serial number CF16AKVBR-XX000-P. It's Saturday and Sound Devices is closed. I have other cards to test and use but was wondering if this issue has been resolved? Quote
Philip Perkins Posted September 13, 2014 Report Posted September 13, 2014 With the Delkin 700s you need to look at specific SN sequences, some of which work and some of which don't (found out the hard way). SD doesn't (can't) test them all, and Delkin makes frequent changes to their cards. I have some 700s that work fine with the current firmware of the 664, but when I get new cards I'll probably go with something else, re the appr list at that time. philp Quote
judykarp Posted September 13, 2014 Report Posted September 13, 2014 Thanks Philip, Three of my Delkin 700s have worked fine in the past. This was a new one. It wasn't a "problem" yesterday (going hard wired directly to camera and SD card worked fine) but good to know for the future. Judy Quote
