Lancashire soundie
Some hooks or eyelets would be nice, so that when I move from outside to in, I could just remove the basket and hang it from my bag.
Nathaniel Robinson
Very nice improvements. The weight/bulk of the pistol grip on the original was a deal breaker for me. I wonder if the conn box and Rycote lyres will retrofit on older blimps (inquiry sent to manufacturer, also speculating aloud here).
MattinSTL
I think Rode is well on its way to becoming "Godzilla" in the audio world... Or what Sony was in the 80s-90s. What intrigues me the most is the Rycote addition... and more specifically that there's a Rycote "approval" involved here... or else they wouldn't be using the name. I'm probably going to get one of these so I can compare it to my Rycote system and Rode's previous version... Hopefully they knocked off a few ounces. Q
I bought a rode blimp as a backup and always wondered if I could install Rycote lyres in it. I just never used it enough to spend the time on it.
Nathaniel Robinson
The official word is that it is not possible to retrofit new lyres on old Rode Blimp. Looks like I might be trying Watson Wu's mod: http://www.watsonwu.com/blog/2014/5/2/mini-me-rode-blimp Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Squareboy
That's a nice Hack, I'd love to see this before a sell mine
SonicBoomPole
Rode sells a blimp mount for boom pole that significantly reduces the heft of their old system. Using th pole mount you don't need to have the entire blimp AND pistol grip. Made a huge difference for me and only cost $12 I think. Nathaniel Robinson
It's a great alternative to the pistol grip! I have one now, but didn't know about it before purchasing my Rycote S-series. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Christian Spaeth
I wonder if they'll include a better fur sock to the blimp. The one that comes with the old blimp hasn't been too effective when there's a bit of wind. I usually prefer using the S-series Rycote over my Rode blimp because of similar performance (but less weight on the Rycote) in slightly windy conditions. Both aren't suitable for strong winds IMO.) JP Fonseca
I bought a rode blimp as a backup and always wondered if I could install Rycote lyres in it. I just never used it enough to spend the time on it. I'm currently working on something like that. Just ordered the lyres, just waiting for some free time between jobs to try the experiment. Q
I'm currently working on something like that. Just ordered the lyres, just waiting for some free time between jobs to try the experiment. Let us know how it turns out. The metal rings and rubber bands are pretty heavy. I suspect it would lighten things up a bit to use the lyres. I picked up the original blimp on a sale, but never really needed to use it.
Adam White
Anyone get their hands on the new blimp yet? Comparisons with Rycote Super Shield? cheers Adam
