Jeff Wexler
We have lost one of our own, a wonderful, kind and talented sound mixer, Walt Martin. I don't know why I missed posting this until now, maybe still in shock. I filled in for Walt on a 4 day job he couldn't do because he had just gone into the hospital. I was worried about him the whole time doing the job and then a week later Liz Radley posted on Facebook that he had died, Thursday, July 24th. Liz Radley is putting together a PhotoBook of Walt for the family. If you have any photos of Walt it would be great to receive them. Include ones with other people too. Please send them at full resolution so they will print well. And if you can add a little info such as where/when/show/names and perhaps a little anecdote of Walt, that can included too. The email for the PhotoBook is: lizradley @ gmail.com
dfisk
I'm really saddened to hear this. I had the pleasure of helping Walt with his Deva V back when they came out. Sweet guy. I learned a lot from him in my Coffey days. He had some cool stories about working with Eastwood. I liked him a lot. He was one of those customers that when he walked in everybody in the shop was very happy to see him. Damn. My sincerest condolences to the family and everyone close to him. RPSharman
A super nice guy. Worked for him just a couple of times. Very sad news.
dsound
This is very sad news. I worked with Walt in the DC area on a "Movie of the Week". He was such a great guy and I learned quite a few mixing techniques from him. Even years later when I was confronted with a complex sound situation, Walt would always return my call with very helpful advice. My deepest condolences to Walt's family and close friends. RIP Walt
old school
I never had the luck to work with Walt, I only saw him a few times at Coffey Sound and chatted briefly. His reputation was stellar and I know he had many friends. RIP Mr Martin. CrewC
John S.
I was fortunate to spend many hours with Walt on the last two Eastwood films and benefited greatly from the experience. His kindness, camaraderie and overall approach to the job are things I'll long remember.
studiomprd
Martin was among the small, tight-knit group of creatives that the director “took everywhere,” Gail Carroll-Coe, a boom operator who did seven Eastwood films with the sound mixer, told The Hollywood Reporter. http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/walt-martin-dead-clint-eastwood-722908?utm_source=Sailthru&utm_medium=email&utm_term=hollywoodreporter_breakingnews&utm_campaign=THR%20Breaking%20News_now_2014-08-02%2013%3A28%3A29_ehayden
glennberk
I came across the news of Walt's death only today, from the attached Variety.com clipping. My heart hit the floor - I think Walt had been doing pretty well after some long periods of health battles. Hell, he said he was going to formally retire, but then his clients kept him too busy for him to get around to it. I'm really saddened by this news - my deepest condolences to Walt's family, and to all us friends and peers who are missing him already.
