Ze Frias
In a manner befitting the popular tech company, the following invitations were sent out today by Apple for a special event this upcoming September 9th: They are expected to announce their new line of iPhones (a 4.7" and possibly a 5.5" iPhone), as well as their first product in the wearable technology market, popularly referred to by the crowds as the "iWatch". Jeff Wexler
Also, this is from the same company that everyone said would fail if they tried to enter the mobile phone marketplace --- I think it is safe to say that Apple has done alright, for themselves and for their customers, NOT confining themselves to just giving people what they want. Apple as a company, certainly under Steve Jobs at first and then with his return, has mastered a philosophy of innovation and dreaming up "the next great thing." Before Apple, Sony famously produced a product that nobody had said they wanted --- the original Sony Walkman. The president of Sony wanted to do this, a small portable cassette player that you had to use headphones (no speaker) to listen to music. Everyone said Sony was nuts, no one will ever want to wear headphones and walk around in the street listening to music. Add to that historically, it was also famously declared by IBM that even the notion of a "personal" computer was ridiculous, who would ever want to have a computer in their home! Fortunately that did not stop Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak from making the Apple 1.
old school
I certainly would never bet against Apple. That would be bitting the hand that feeds for me. CrewC

VASI
I am still remember the old days when one mobile phone had a big screen and called "slipper". The small mobiles was in fashion. Now again the big screens. Ahhh fashion make cycles...

It looks like Apple is (finally) allowing 3rd party phone apps to get much more control over the camera with the new OS. Then again, the less automatic the camera, the more chances for somebody to screw up.

Ze Frias
From the people who said big screen are stupid... Finally this company gives people what they want and not tell people what they want.. My understanding is that there was a high volume of demand from current users to make phones with bigger screens. Apple listened. Because of the bigger screen, that means that they can actually make the phone a tiny bit slimmer, as well as pack more hardware upgrades including a man-made sapphire glass, as well as a 128GB SSD for the bigger iPhone model. I personally do welcome bigger screen sizes, but wouldn't want to go with such a size as the 5.5" (I do see its appeal to some folks). I'm due for a phone upgrade this month, so I may get this new iPhone.

johnpaul215
Hopefully bigger phone means longer battery life. The iPad is basically an iPhone with a ton of battery inside. The extra capacity takes care of the requirements of the bigger screen and still gets more runtime.
johnpaul215
So this is interesting, the *rumored* battery for the bigger iPhone6 is 2915mAh. That's come a long way from our NP1 that is 4.6Ah and significantly larger. Different voltages and draw, but it seems like smartphones and tablets are really pushing the battery industry to make things smaller and lighter. I hope that trickles down to sound and cameras. If I remember right, the batteries we use have the cells configured in a way (series) to get the required voltage, and are not ~14volts as manufactured. http://www.macrumors.com/2014/09/02/2915-mah-iphone-6-battery/
RadoStefanov
In the IDX case, since there is no competition and all resellers push the NP1 as a sound battery so it might not happen very soon.

" my (Samsung Galaxy) phone has 4.8 and is smaller and lighter than an NP-1 You need to be looking at the WattHours to compare... Phone battery = 4.8Ah, 4.35V ~ 21WH. NP1 = 68WH Put 3 of those supposed iphone 6 batteries in a pack together, add some circuitry to monitor and charge the 3 batts independently, sufficient temperature monitoring, and you're back at an NP1 or Endura size... Marc Wielage
Very true. We need a battery breakthrough much bigger than Lithium in order to ramp up that kind of amp-hour/wattage rating in the same size package. Early reports have it that Apple will not be able to deliver the bigger 6" iPhone until next year, and the iWatch may be delayed as well: http://www.macrumors.com/2014/07/13/iphone-6-production-issues-5-5-inch-delay-2015/
