LarryF
Hi Trat, OK. First, thanks for the nag. Keeps me from having to be organized. We have enough kits for 50 SM's and 150 SMq's. If we run out, we will have more in a month. We had to use the initial production run of these parts for shipping products so that those users wouldn't run into the same problem a few years down the road. The gold plated wavy washer didn't pan out because the spring maker would not stand behind the springiness if we had them plated with anything. So we brought the problem in house and came up with a different solution involving a fine mesh Monel screen that we laser cut here. Monel is a group of nickel alloys, primarily composed of nickel (up to 67%) and copper, with small amounts of iron, manganese, carbon, and silicon. Stronger than pure nickel, Monel alloys are resistant to corrosion by many agents, including rapidly flowing seawater. (From Google) The kit consists of a spare e-clip, the Monel washer, and a new thumbscrew with a different location of the e-clip groove. This should solve several mechanical problems; mechanical erosion by the old conical Belleville washer and mechanical binding of the e-clip. You will reuse the door. See the cleaning instructions, etc., in other parts of this thread. So remove the e-clip, substitute the new thumbscrew with the Monel screen in place of the Belleville washer, reassemble the door and insert the e-clip into the groove. The new thumbscrew will already have a speck of the magic silver grease. If the e-clip goes off into space, as it is wont to do, remember we included a spare one. If both of them get away, at least you have twice the chance of still finding one of them in the shag carpet. Email name and !!!address!!! to larryf@lectrosonics.com with how many kits you need for SM's or SMq's; the thumbscrew is a little thinner on the SM to reduce the size a teeny bit but thicker on the dual battery SMq for more grip. We will mail them out at no charge. For overseas requests, we will gather the requests and send them in bulk to a local dealer. Best Regards, Larry Fisher Lectrosonics
