JDirckze
Anybody on this board work on this show? Just trying to figure out if the desk mics are props or not... Video below; Many thanks! Jason
Jeff Wexler
Well, I imagine that they did make the microphones practical (easy enough to do with that little Mackie Mixer sitting there) but I don't think they are being used to produce the sound we hear in the video clip. It is also quite puzzling that NONE of the microphones are set properly in front of the people speaking. The SHURE SM-55 (these look to be the new "vintage" version) is a side-address microphone --- you speak into the large flat side of the mic --- and all of these microphones are aimed as if you are supposed to speak into the top of the mic. I suppose the mic would still pick up the voice okay in these positions and possibly the quality of the audio on the video does not reveal so well the source pickup. It's hard to say (unless the person who does this show chimes in here).
VASI
Another one with Rupert Neve. The microphone is sE RN17 small diaphragm cardioid microphone (condenser). I think we hear Mr. Neve via sE RN17 in this video (and maybe a Neve preamp?). A great interview by the way.

Jim Feeley
I dig that Elvis stamp. Part of the series honoring the SM55. Another from the series:
JDirckze
Thanks for the response Jeff & Senator, that was my initial thought too. Before the show existed I believe it was a podcast, so perhaps that was the setup for the podcast, or maybe just set dressing to give the feel of a podcast... Nick Ray Harris
These guys do a ton of podcasting, did he say if this was their actual space or strictly a set for the show?
