Not sure why Japan and Europe released info today, I thought we were holding this a couple more weeks.  (this was going to be the 3rd thing at AES for this audience).

So this is a premium version of the DSLR audio recorder concept with a cross-over feature set for bag work.   Mic pres are newly designed.  As the Senator notes, the 5532 is a step up in terms of op-amp performance.   5532s kind of went out of fashion for a while, but the ones we get now definitely provide the spec required.

This is our first recorder that supports SDXC cards, max 128GB qualified so far.

US price should be around $300, not sure if that's final yet though.

Hi, and welcome (finally) M42: " Is there any news about Tascam DR-70D? "

probably, but there are other, perhaps better, forums that might be more on top of it, and you should keep in touch with TASCAM.

If everyone went to other forums or to manufacturers' sites, contacted the manufacturer, did hours of research to answer their questions, or RTFM, what would you have to do all day?

;-)

Hhmm...

"there are other, perhaps better, forums"

Sorry. I have got great information from this forum. Great professionals sharing their experiences from this and that. Many times manufacturers send some copies of the "beta-versions" to selected users to beta-test and they are allowed to share their opinions. Maybe you should find an amateur site where you can post your "not so clever" answers, maybe you will find soul mates there.

"you should keep in touch with TASCAM"

When you are talking with manufacture representative you normally get adjectives like: "gorgeous", "magnificent", "unbelievable", "super" etc. They are sellers. That's why I asked about Pro-opinion.

I'm heavy user of Sound Devices 788T, MixPre D, Lectro wireless, Sennheiser mics etc. but there are cases when you get job done with lighter kit: Tascam DR-70D???, Roland R-26 even with Zoom H4N etc.

"You get what you pay for" but sometimes "you get paid very well even you are using semi-pro set", if you are capable to squeeze from the product and hit the goal.

Like cameras.

Arri Alexa is fantastic camera and giving superior picture but some times Canon 5D etc. will get the job done.

And I noticed that there seems to be also others who are interested of this product.

Tom,

How much mA per channel or for all channels?

I think the correct answer to this is "all of them".

The days of underpowering the 48V power rail for cost reasons are long gone, and I think that was a mixer thing, not a recorder thing (because using phantom mics on all channels at once was unexpected on a mixer).   We use DC-DC converter chips capable of over 1 amp at 50V, so it's a none issue.

What we've seen over the last few years as phantom problems are not how much current can be delivered, but mics with active electronics drawing non-linear loads, requiring more filtering (bigger caps) than indicated by design tools.   This had already been dealt with in the DR-680 days.

Tom.

m42: " That's why I asked about Pro-opinion. "

no, what you asked is : " Is there any news about Tascam DR-70D? "

and I suggested the manufacturer, and/or more appropriate forums that are more specialized in the pro-sumer products.. Perhaps also some of the mass marketeers (B+H etc.) might have such "news"..

" Many times manufacturers send some copies of the "beta-versions" to selected users to beta-test and they are allowed to share their opinions. "

not so much, here.  typically beta-testers sign NDA's, and only discuss their impressions and findings with the manufacturer; what you are referring to is manufacturers providing early production units to reviewers, who are encouraged to share their findings.

No.

Please, do not take a sentence out of a whole. I was referring to the recorders Pre's and quality of them.

And yes, with "beta-versions" I was referring to "early production units", that's the reason I asked about"news" in general, but one clearly did not know how to read between the lines.

Yes, I can and I use google daily. I am also aware other forums too.

And about Pro-sumer products, there are plenty of topics and good "hands-on" info about Pro-sumer products in JWS forum so please ...

It would be nice to me and the others not to pollute JWS topics if you don't have the REAL answers etc.

Thanks!
