How to repair?

Plastic plumbing pipe cement - not sure what that suspension is made of, but I used to fix my old rycotes with ABS cement. Not sure if the newer ones are ABS, PVC or something else, but plumbing cement is cheap, fast and effective once you get the right type...

contact rycote :-)

Oh that's no fun......

my personal experience of contacting rycote has been very good.

IIRC there was a bit of a design flaw with the early version of those grips - they mostly break along the thin bit where the XLR goes and they they strengthened and/or changed the plastic on a later version. I can't see glueing the thin edge of the split being very effective in the long run, especially if you want to continue using the grip to hold the XLR.

But if you prefer glue to rycote, why not glue a male XLR shell into the grip (you could still swap out the rest of the XLR) and it would make it way stronger than a tiny bit of glue in the splitting stress point.

dan.

attachicon.gif4a8d60818bd85sry043.jpgRemember this Rycote shock mount?  Not for me, but a fellow soundie asked me the other day what glue to use to put one back together.  Seems its splitting at the bottom from use.

I had no idea...

any thoughts? ???

Cleve

Splitting at the bottom, meaning at the 3/8" threaded insert that attaches to the boom pole? If it's splitting there, I bet it's toast, but for a temporary fix to get you home, a screw type hose clamp might do well.
