Mungo
Since these young people are talented musicians but no professional audio recordists (and no professional steadycam operators!!), I find this recording amazing. It seems to be no playback. An uncommon, creative, but effective recording technique. Which mikes are used?

Mirror
Lip sync if you ask me. Some of those voices are too clean particularly with some of the heads dipping. they just added a little outside ambience to take the curse off. Vincent Gates
it smacks of auto tune
soundslikejustin
Mimed. The vocals are panned in places that the mic technique shown wouldn't allow. Cups/hits may be live.
dfisk
yeah, vocals are too clean and perfect to have been recorded live.
David Silberberg
Lip sync if you ask me. Mungo
Thank you for your estimation Mimed. The vocals are panned in places that the mic technique shown wouldn't allow. Cups/hits may be live. This must be it. At 1:26 on of the red cups jiggles for a moment on the table and it's clearly audible.
old school
I'd vote a live oner. CrewC
smicycle
I can hear and see like 10 ways this is lip synced, but I am too lazy to list them. Lip synced.
soundmanjohn
This afternoon I met the lady who first worked out this routine with her friend. They were called Lulu & The Lampshades and are now known as Landshapes. We had an interesting discussion about recording bees. You can see their original video here, although the YouTube sync is pretty terrible Regards, John
Todd Weaver
Auto tune evident. Perhaps they lip synced the vocals with some sort of playback. The cups, claps, and snaps appear to be what those mics were recording.
Stillweii
That was pretty cool. ...so good I want to believe its all live.... Wouldnt we hear the drone / steadycam man's footsteps in the dirt/grass?
Crussell
I like this one: https://www.facebook.com/video.php?v=10152935988634731
RPSharman
I'm catching small breaths that couldn't possibly be picked up with that mic placement. They also seem to not be making any "effort" while singing. I vote for lip syncing (without singing along) in order to capture the cups cleanly with just the playback track. Then more playback mixed in later.
