codyman Posted February 11, 2015 Report Posted February 11, 2015 I was perusing Monoprice as I regularly do (if you're not familiar with them, they have a ton of cables and everything else under the sun for incredibly great prices, including professional ones such as XLR / TRS etc etc). Anyways, I stumbled upon this new product they have that's a bi-directional lav. According to the one review, apparently it doesn't sound all that great but I'm thinking it might be a great communication tool for me to my boom op and am considering trying it out. It would be great to have a simple one pack solution, especially at only $85 bucks! Quote
Geoff Tirrell Posted February 11, 2015 Report Posted February 11, 2015 It may work if you keep the distance really short. I just glanced at it but the stated range of 150 ft seems like it would disappear really quickly in a lot of situations, especially if there is anything in the way. That said for 80 bucks let us know how it goes. Quote
Jeff Wexler Posted February 11, 2015 Report Posted February 11, 2015 5mw output, probably would work short range (like the communication needs of crane operator and camera operator, etc.) but still unclear how full duplex is implemented. The description "The receiver has the facility of outputting the audio received from the transmitter without including the audio broadcast from the receiver, so you give directions to your audio engineer during recordings." doesn't really explain how a set with 1 transmitter and 1 receiver accomplishes full duplex operation. stevegrider Posted February 12, 2015 Report Posted February 12, 2015 I read that there is latency of 1 second. I wouldn't want to deal with that. Maybe the best application for this is walkie talkies that you don't have to push-to-talk. Quote
codyman Posted February 12, 2015 Author Report Posted February 12, 2015 I read that there is latency of 1 second. Yeah that would be rather obnoxious. I'll keep an eye on it and see if any other reviews roll in... Quote
osa Posted February 12, 2015 Report Posted February 12, 2015 maybe just me...but if you are far enough away to not notice the 1 second delay, you might have no reception, so cups and a string might work better over long distances for the budget minded? -Ken Quote
Johnny Karlsson Posted February 12, 2015 Report Posted February 12, 2015 I once used an app on the phone called Zello. It's free. Quote
