darwinnovicio
Hi everyone! Im planing to get some quick release system for my boom poles. Just like to know your opinions about the two quick releases? Maybe pro's and con's of each? Other than the price comparison. Thank you! Erkal Taskin
There is the Sound Guys solution too which is cheaper, I think they have 2 kinds...
John Blankenship
There have been several discussions about quick releases. In Google Search, type: jwsoundgroup (followed by your search criteria)

darwinnovicio
Thank you so much for referring Sound Guys Solutions. its indeed more "Quicker" Quick release. Ill look at their site and find the nearest dealer. Thank you!
Prahlad Strickland
The orca is great but some parts rust. And the rubber gasket shreds easily. But works real wel.
Matthew Sonnenfeld
Never had an ambient product I didn't like. The Ambient Quick Lock is very well made and very secure. Parts for it are pretty available all the time from the usual suspects which is nice too. Expensive but I feel you get what you pay for. pvanstry
I have the orca and loving it. I use 3 of them, two on booms and mic and the third for my antenna mast head.
Toy Robot
I saw a lot of folks abandon the Ambient models when the Sound Guys and Orca stuff came out, but I have never been dissatisfied with my Ambient Quick Releases and now I have 3 of them. They are indeed expensive, but I like them a lot.
John Blankenship
I have at least four of the Ambient model. They each come with two tips, and I've bought a couple of extras, so I can have a whole variety of mics pre-rigged and ready for action. They're quick, and I like how secure they are with no play whatsoever.
Erkal Taskin
I have Ambient too and its not as simple as the others, you have to align it properly or else it does not lock or can even get stuck. Kind of beats its own purpose at times. Will switch to SGS soon hopefully... Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
bassmagnetic
I find the Orca has some play which can cause additional handling noise on the recordings

Wandering Ear
I have 3 ambients and lots of tips on all my mics. I love them.
Erkal Taskin
I've never found this to be an issue. Not really an issue, but having to align so it fits is an extra step to take which no other brand has due to a better design. For less money. Nick Ray Harris
For me, all ambient on my poles because I boom for other mixers in town, all of the which bought the ambient system when it was the only thing out. Something to consider.
Todd Weaver
The ambient can only be difficult to use if you over complicate the process. I was over complicating it for years by twisting the quick lock open and lining up the mic mount stud and then closing the quick release.. Then one day my boom op walked up, dropped a zepplin on it, made a simple quick turn to the left with it, an it was automatically attached.. Very quick.. Now I know better. Olle Sjostrom
I still think though that the most effective quick release systems are the Togloc (Loon) or VdB and PSCtype systems (JW refers to them with a name I always forget), K-tek stage poles have them as well. The top of the boom comes off. Simple as that. It just feels more secure and simple IMO This doesn't help anyone who's already bought a pole, I know, just thinking if anyone should read this wanting to invest in a pole and a quick release system, I suggest that they look at this option instead. I'm very happy with my PSC Elite pole. I know that the K-tek is awesome too.

So I just turn the lock with the mic already in, all with a single hand? At the moment its a frustrating, hold the lock with one hand-while the fingers are trying to keep it twisted and open-while the other hand is trying to align the mic in there, type of sequence and at times it does not lock shut and gets stuck too... Todd Weaver
You don't even have to touch the lock. Just set the mic mount stud in and turn in.
