BVE - Things I discovered today

Dropped into BVE Expo in London today to listen to a talk on surround-sound delivery on radio and wandered around a maze of cameras and lights to pass the time.  Discovered the following snippets which may or may not be of interest:

Smaller Rycote Cyclones coming, around June this year.

LaCie is now owned by Seagate, so all LaCie units come with Seagate drives.

The LaCie 8big rack mount Thunderbolt array may only be 1U high, but it's 30" deep, not including connectors.

The Cinela Pianissimo is neat, but not exactly easy to put together in a hurry and is certainly not cheap.

ProTools has some sort of free version coming up - ProTools First.

Almost forgot: played with the Rode digital wireless mic. Big and bulky plastic transmitter, aimed squarely at the DSLR brigade, wedding videographers and the like. Runs off 2 AA batteries and includes a lav which rolls off at 75Hz. Locking 3.5mm mini-jack. Ho-hum sound - OK, but nothing spectacular.

Finally, drones are getting bigger and noisier and cameras are getting smaller.

Regards,

John
