Dan Wake
I had problems with my boomple. it produce a "click" when I move it clockwise and counterclockwise. I did a video I hope it will explain the problem. Did you had the same experience with this Rode boolpole? do you believe is it a defective unit? or it's a common problem? thx
Rick Reineke
I doubt many of us on this forum use the Rode pole. You would probably get more response from the audio sections of the DVi and DVX discussion groups, which are frequented by more folk and OMB shooters using low budget gear. codyman
I had one as my first boom pole years ago. Never was happy with it for many reasons and repurposed it as my RF Venue Antenna pole a few years back.
Dan Wake
I'm going to send it back to the seller. I will have about 300 euro of budget to get a boompole that can allow me to take clean dialogue between two actors (and I hope also to walk with it without produce noise). Do you have any advice in wich boompole could I invest my money please? I do not know the market of the boompoles and theyr pourpose. if my budget is tiny I will take the one heavy as a orcish battle axe but all I ask is to take clean audio. thanks a lot for your help. johnpaul215
I have one I was using as an antenna mast and found it too annoying for that. The collars jammed up a lot.
VASI
Not the same; but collars are the worst part. I did an investment on Ambient QS boompole and all problems gone. Not cheap, but you get what you pay. Lesson learned.
Karri
Have a look at Pinknoise's selection. They have really good customer service. For that budget you might find a proper boom (like those K-Tek's) but I'm sure it'll be aluminum and therefore heavier. But I think Rode's pole is aluminum anyway, right? They have an Ambient boom for a bit over 300, but it's a short one, and for your only/first boom you should probably get one that goes to 3-4 metres or so. http://www.pinknoise-systems.co.uk/boom-poles.html

Tong0615
If you are going to buy in the EU, i would recommend VdB or Ambient, both are very well build and most resellers in the EU have them in stock. you can find the mini boompoles under 300€ (about 40cm or 50cm to 2m, for most interior situation is long enough). I have a Rode Boompole years ago before i got my Ambient XQ, never happy with Rode, they can not be 100% locked, and make noise itself. If you want to continue to do more boom job, a good boom pole is very important just like a gun for a soldier, it can save your life. Constantin
With threads like these I really really miss the Senator. Dan, with the various replies in this thread you can already tell that there are a lot of options for boompoles. You need to rent a few different ones and find out which one you like best and then save up to buy that one. There is no point to buy another cheap one. But don't expect any of these booms to provide clean dialogue recordings. There's a lot more to that
johnpaul215
If money is a roadblock, look at used ones. Buy one in decent shape, and when you have the cash, buy a nice new one. Down the road it's not a bad idea to have a spare available. Either a backup, or when you get to use 2 booms.
Simon Hayter
Look at bblist.co.uk for used poles
Todd Weaver
Since everyone here has decided that your boom pole is crap, might I suggest that you check the consignment sections on the usual suspect's web stores. Trew audio, Gotham sound, and pro sound. You can pick up a decent pole like a VDB or k-tec with some miles on it. Parts are available and you would be surprised what a good cleaning will do for them. Dan Wake
I contacted the Rode company in Italy. they saw my video and they did a test on their units. they say my boompole is broken and I must get a new one. I will get a new Rode boompole and try. I will update you in the next weeks/month.

dfisk
They told you to purchase a new one? They didn't offer to fix the one you have? At K-Tek, we actually service our stuff...in a timely manner.
Glen Deakin
Buy a painters pole from home depot. Would be about the same quality for a quarter of the price of a rodie pole.
