Glen Deakin Posted May 14, 2015 Report Posted May 14, 2015 Thought I'd start a thread and just see how and what people are using to store lav mics I got these case logic CD cases at a dollar store and they work great. Colour coded with space to put an identity tag for easy keeping track of lavs. Each insert is double sided.
Glen Deakin Posted May 14, 2015 Author Report Posted May 14, 2015 Its amazing what you can find in a dollar store. The cases were $2cdn. Needless to say I thought lav storage and bought like 8 of them they came with like 25 black inserts. The color coded sheets were an additional $1cdn. One of the better items I found in a store. They also went pretty quickly and have not seen them at that price ever again. FYI for the Canadian sound people it was Dollarama.
JonG Posted May 14, 2015 Report Posted May 14, 2015 Thats a pretty good idea! Ive just been using the zipper cases that countryman lavs come in. Not great but compact and fairly simple to organize.
atheisticmystic Posted May 15, 2015 Report Posted May 15, 2015 That is bloody genius Indeed. Ive been struggling, like Jon, with the Countryman zipper cases, which are big (and the zippers bust like nobody's business), and the Sanken plastic cases, which are thick. Glen, can you provide some nomenclature to ease the search for some of these ? Best, Steven
ryanpeds Posted May 15, 2015 Report Posted May 15, 2015 http://www.amazon.com/Case-Logic-CDS-120-Capacity-ProSleeve/dp/B000JJSQ58/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1431661295&sr=8-1&keywords=case+logic+cd+sleeves I found these on Amazon. Can't find the colored ones though.
Toy Robot Posted May 15, 2015 Report Posted May 15, 2015 I use lens filter cases. Work great, already have velcro closure, easy to store. Have been doing that for years now and still enjoy it.
Ze Frias Posted May 15, 2015 Report Posted May 15, 2015 I use lens filter cases. Work great, already have velcro closure, easy to store. Have been doing that for years now and still enjoy it. +1 I use lens filter cases as well. Love them.
Glen Deakin Posted May 15, 2015 Author Report Posted May 15, 2015 Like I said these were at a dollar store when I got them. I have not seen these anywhere. Never thought about using lens cases.
chrisnewton Posted May 15, 2015 Report Posted May 15, 2015 Great idea Glen. I'm hitting Dollarama for a couple of these.
Glen Deakin Posted May 15, 2015 Author Report Posted May 15, 2015 It was quite a while back. I have not been able to find them
stevegrider Posted May 16, 2015 Report Posted May 16, 2015 I unplug them and gently wrap them around my Lectro SM transmitters. Then I slide a terrycloth wrist sweatband over all of it before it goes in the front of my bag. Keeps it all nice and tidy and cheaply provides a bit of cushion.
greg sextro Posted May 16, 2015 Report Posted May 16, 2015 Plano Tackle case. Lavs on the bottom, accessories on the top.
Jason A Posted May 17, 2015 Report Posted May 17, 2015 These are Klipsch earbud cases. Very compact. Decent protection.
Jeremiah Sheets Posted June 26, 2015 Report Posted June 26, 2015 +1 I use lens filter cases as well. Love them. Which filter cases are you both using?
Ze Frias Posted June 27, 2015 Report Posted June 27, 2015 Which filter cases are you both using? This one: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00796D03C?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00 It fits six lavs if you store one lav mic per compartment. However, I have since moved on to using the pills organizer pouch from Lewis N. Clark below, based on Massachusetts local Andy Turrett's recommendation. It works great for me as I would otherwise have to carry up to three of the lens filter cases to carry all my lavs. Here's a link: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0027RWNN6?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00 Here's a few photos showing the new pouch:
José Posted June 27, 2015 Report Posted June 27, 2015 (edited) I am absolutely guilty of this. But from time to time, I'll wrap my lavs around the transmitter and place them in Lectro cases for the day. Just saying. Any spares are in my Countryman cases. Edited June 27, 2015 by José
Jeremiah Sheets Posted June 27, 2015 Report Posted June 27, 2015 Thanks! Found a similar lens filter case on Amazon. Holds 4 with accessories. Two of those is good enough for me.I'll look into that pill case as I expand my inventory. Great tip!
Dave Rainey Posted October 4, 2024 Report Posted October 4, 2024 reviving this thread. curious what hard shell/plastic, etc types of cases folks are using. I've tried a few tackle box single containers, but want to switch it up again. need a little more room. thx!
The Documentary Sound Guy Posted October 4, 2024 Report Posted October 4, 2024 Probably not helpful because it's too similar to what you are moving away from, but I'm a big fan of the $5 plastic cases that Trew sells. More compact than DPA / COS11 cases, and just enough space that each lav gets its own set of accessories. The ones they sold a decade ago were better though ... same design, but clear / white plastic instead of blue, and the compartment lid didn't come off the way the current ones do.
Conor Posted October 4, 2024 Report Posted October 4, 2024 Boxes suck because you will inevitably catch a part of the cable in the hinge/lid at some point, damaging the cable. Pouch solutions are the best long-term, IME.
fieldsound Posted October 4, 2024 Report Posted October 4, 2024 I’m a fan of the KTek pouches. You can open and close them with one hand and label them easily. Very low profile solution and they hold up well over years. https://ktekpro.com/product/stingray-lav-pouch/
