Andy P Posted June 25, 2015 Report Posted June 25, 2015 Is anyone else having problems seeing the pictures from this thread? I can't see the two pics posted. Especially keen to see Tony's picture, it's my project today to get my new Micplexer and SNA600's mounted! Quote
Jeff Wexler Posted June 25, 2015 Report Posted June 25, 2015 Jose and Tony have both posted images (Jose's may be the same image "quoted" from Tony, I don't know) and the other images and video are all links which should work. The images that are not showing have not been posted properly or were posted as links (not an upload) and the links are broken. I am not able to access these images either. Not much I can do from my end, sorry. Quote
Tony Johnson Posted June 26, 2015 Report Posted June 26, 2015 I will try to upload image soon I am a bit of a Luddite when it comes to this sort of thing, bear with me tony Quote
Mosdeaf Posted June 26, 2015 Report Posted June 26, 2015 Anyone notice much of a range difference when using a harness to shoulder mount their SNA600s as opposed to having them fixed in the bag? Quote
Nate C Posted June 26, 2015 Report Posted June 26, 2015 Honestly the main difference I've noticed is it gets it up higher, reducing the number of obstacles, those increasing range in critical times. If I won't require it on my harness ii leave it on the bag. Quote
Ze Frias Posted June 27, 2015 Report Posted June 27, 2015 I couldn't see my own picture either, so here it is again: Quote
Aural Fixation Posted June 27, 2015 Report Posted June 27, 2015 Jose, in working with your setup, when you set your bag down to take a break, do you leave the harness attached to the bag, or do you have quick releases for the antenna? I usually keep my harness on at all times de/attaching the bag as needed. That is my only hesitation in using your setup. Quote
Jason Todd Posted June 27, 2015 Report Posted June 27, 2015 Not the most elegant setup, but the range boost is worth it. Quote
pindrop Posted June 27, 2015 Report Posted June 27, 2015 (edited) Thanks Jason here's a geeky off topic question, what black knobs you got on your Nomad and why? Edited June 27, 2015 by pindrop Quote
Jason Todd Posted June 27, 2015 Report Posted June 27, 2015 They're Sound Devices 664 knobs. I like the feel of them better than the stock Nomad knobs. They have a little bump at the front of the knob that I think makes them a little easier to grab when I'm not looking. Quote
Glen Trew Posted June 27, 2015 Report Posted June 27, 2015 Not the most elegant setup, but the range boost is worth it. The dipole cable is essentially the same thing, with probably the same performance, with fewer connections and nearly invisible, not to mention much less expensive. The dipole cable is definitely the way to go for external antennas on bag rigs. Quote

Jason Todd Posted June 27, 2015 Report Posted June 27, 2015 Thanks, Glen. Love the high noise headset and the slate mic is super useful. The high noise headset was essential in protecting my ears from gun shots, noisy boat motors, and a hundred other things on the police show I just worked on and I loved having the slate mic to have private convo's with producers on Comteks. I have the dipole cables that Lectro makes (in Block 20) in addition to the SNA600's. In my experience, the SNA600's got me better range, but it's certainly not scientific and not dramatically better. Just my experience. I'm still going back and forth between the two. Quote
Jason Todd Posted June 27, 2015 Report Posted June 27, 2015 Also, I had shark fins on a stereo bar with a pistol grip that I could quickly switch to on occasion when I really needed to push the range for police raids. It was much faster to just disconnect two BNC's two swap back and forth between the antennas. Quote

I too have the same experience, but the coax dipoles work pretty darn well for almost all my bag jobs. Quote
Jason A Posted July 4, 2015 Report Posted July 4, 2015 Just gave this system a a walk test vs whips. Much cleaner scans and about 20% better range with the dipoles vs whips directly on the rx. Quote
pindrop Posted July 15, 2015 Report Posted July 15, 2015 (edited) Just trying this as a quick release mount for SNA600 on the side of an Orca OR41 using Smallrig coldshoe components - So far so good. http://smallrig.com/ Cold Shoe Mount 1593 Cold Shoe Adapter 3/8 inch screw 1275 Edited July 15, 2015 by pindrop Quote
Jack Norflus Posted July 15, 2015 Report Posted July 15, 2015 Nice! I've been planning on doing something like this for a while - everything I was thinking about wasn't nearly as elegant so I will be stealing your idea. Quote

Excellent, great to be able to make a small contribution, I've learned a lot from this forum, and a great many things on the Zaxcom front from you Jack. Edited July 15, 2015 by pindrop Quote

pindrop Posted July 15, 2015 Report Posted July 15, 2015 Great, Smallrig make nicely made useful bits at very reasonable prices. The only thing that worries me is my SNA up arrow is pointing down, will my sound be upside down Quote
