John Blankenship
Did you try swapping antennas? Different frequencies? Different receiver? Make sure the battery contacts are firm?
Jonathan Michael Lau
did water or actor sweat seep into the unit? i had a really sweaty summer and at one point had to blow dry the contacts from what was discovered, pooling sweat in the ta5. TDP
Squelch bypassed somehow? +1 on checking with something terminating the pack is a good first step. Bad antenna(e) / connection on the pack? What does it do when you remove the antenna and then plug it back on? Does it seat properly (does it wiggle / does the sound get worse when you move the antenna where it connects to the Tx)? I'm sure others will have more suggestions…

karlw
Looks like corrosion on some of the pins. Could the transmitter have been subjected to moisture? Unfortunately, it probably does need to come in for service.

mikewest
Although a proper service by a certified agent is best, if you are desperate try using IsoPropyl alcohol on the board and gently clean with a soft tooth brush. Another thing to look for is dirt sitting in the 5 pin microphone connector - use a air can to remove it. mike

ShubiSnax
Try to find someone local with an ultrasonic cleaner for electronics. That might be your best bet.
