chrisyking
I've just bought an old stock 8060 for a reduced price. Did anyone ever work out which serial numbers were 'revision 1' with the earth problems? Can anyone who has had problems with this mic please post their serial numbers here? (or is that a dodgy thing to do?). Cheers Chris
efksound
Are these the ones Pinknoise is selling ?http://www.pinknoise-systems.co.uk/sennheiser-mkh-8060-short-shotgun-mic.html
Richard Thomas
They made a big change to PCB design and added a different dark ring by the 'capsule' screw for those manufactured from around Feb 2015. The older ones sound exactly the same and if the issue does come up Sennheiser are able to fix it pretty quickly now- I've had one out of warranty they fixed without charge. I think all the pinknoise ones went back to sennheiser- is it the RFS ones on ebay?
RPSharman
I bought 2 from Pink Noise. Not sure if they are "updated" or not. I suppose I'll check, but you could ask John.
chrisyking
Yes Richard I got one from Richmond film. They are selling a load on ebay. They said they could replace it if it goes funny, but I just wanted to know if it's one of the bad ones before I take it out on something important.... Ty Ford
What was the problem?
Richard Thomas
Here's an older version (no ring, XLR connector) and a newer one (with ring and MZL)
chrisyking
Hmm. Looks like I got an early one....
nickreich
Maybe not - I don't have 8060s, but do have a quantity of 8020s and 8040s. Early ones didn't have the ring One of those had the noise problem and had to be replaced. Newer ones had the darker metal ring - simple, I thought. but then I just bought another brand new 8020, with a much more recent serial number, and it doesn't have the ring anymore. chrisyking
I guess the only way we will know is if some kind soul will share with us the ballpark of the serial numbers with the problem. Anyone?
Richard Thomas
Mine was replaced this year, it's in the 4000s, first number (batch?) is in the 1100s
r.paterson
I bought a new 8060 in Sept..and it doesn't have the ring and it wasnt a cheap demo deal so worrying will chase it up from sennheiser/dealer what are good serial numbers..Richard
chrisyking
Richard, the serial number you gave - is that the end four numbers or the 1st four? The serial on mine seems to be split in two - 1074 then 002522.
r.paterson
My new 8060 in sept which wasn't a demo model has serial number 1294003051 no ring..I sent sennheiser an email asking if there was a specific cutoff on serial numbers with problem no reply..I'll be mightly pissed off if my 8060 goes down having specifically bought a new one and not a demo...richard
Richard Thomas
Mine's 1165 004301- was a replacement from in May last year, mic was shipped direct from Germany
chrisyking
Hmm. Not sure how these serials work. Maybe the last section of numbers is the real serial number. Will try sennheiser.
RadoStefanov
I assume there will be some old serial refurbished mics coming out of Sennheiser. Especially for a replacement.
chrisyking
Does anyone know the serial of one which has gone down?
axel
hi there, I guess it is the last 4 digits: I bought # 1341000634 and # 1411000712 in Feb 2012, the latter started to behave badly in October and was replaced by Senn with # 1472001594 later in November 2012. # 1341000634 is still working OK. I remember, that one of the two 8060s (both from the very first batch) came dead on arrival and was immediately sent back to Sennheiser, most likely the 0634... I was busy shooting in the mountains by then and did not keep track of the serials. hope this could help
