Recording Vehicle Noise

Hi all,

I've got a job coming up in which the client wants high quality recordings of the various noises made by a large commercial vehicle. Does anyone have any suggestions for mics I could hire for this? I suspect just using my 416 would be a bit disappointing.

Thanks in advance

Probably the same as for a loud car. Large diaphragm dynamics handle high SPL / LF well. Sennheiser 421 for instance. For small loud engine compartments, I've used SM11s, (dynamic lavaliere) and SM58s. SDCs would be ok in the cabin I would think. I wouldn't use a shotgun at all. Stereo mics or pairs for drive-bys.
