Matt Geldof
Can anyone recommend a licensed Sanken Service center, for a CS-3e shotgun mic, preferably in the States?
Mobilemike
I believe the US Sanken distributor, Plus24, is based in California. I don't believe they service mics though. When I contacted them a few months ago about servicing one of my CS3e's, they said that it would have to be send to Japan for service. They said it would cost about $500 for the trip and service. Hope this helps a bit. -Mike
ProSound
Ask Gotham Sound or Pro-sound what the best way to go is for service
Derek H
Yup, my CS3e is on its way to Japan right now. I'm not happy about the $500 flat fee. At all. I'd definitely see what your dealer can do first. Even Schoeps service is less expensive.
Glen Deakin
If it's something minor I'm sure a good technician could probably get you up and running. If it's capsule related that may be a different story.
Derek H
Mine had a physical ticking sound like a loose part rattling around inside. Plus 24 could not solve it on their own.
Glen Deakin
You would think loose parts would be the easiest thing to fix
Derek H
You would think so. It sounded fine otherwise.
greyfoxx
They once quoted me $80 for the EMI mod on an early serial number model. I asked them how much to do a checkup as well and they quoted me the flat fee. I skipped both. Great mic but odd service fees.
Matt Geldof
I ended up opening the mic and re soldering a faulty ground connector, which fixed the offending buzz. I would have preferred sending it back to the manufacturer, but having performed the EMI mod in 2013, felt confident enough to take a look. It was an easy fix this time around, but given your replies, I am not looking forward to dealing with future repair/maintenance. If anyone from Sanken is listening in, we love your products but really need improved service options.
Derek H
To update you on my rattling CS3e... it went to Japan, they were able to fix it and only charged me $70 for the repair. Plus almost $40 for shipping (to Japan). So in my case it came in way under the $500 they quoted me. Just used it yesterday, sounds great, rattle free. Sarah at plus24 is fantastic! Boomboom
I bought a CS3e that also had rattle a few years ago. Brand new. I opened it and found a loose drop of solder in the tube. Got rid of it, re-assembled the mic. Problem solved. It probably passed QC because the solder drop was caught somewhere inside then got loose after a while. Derek H
Could have been the same in my case. Wasn't brave enough to open it myself though!
