choosing mics

I shall follow Joshua's post with my own mic purchasing history.......

1st mic bought was a 416, which I used inside and out

Next was an 816 for outside

Next was an AKG C568, which looks like a 416 but has a much fuller, woody sound - I used it inside and out. I still have it some 30 years later!!

Next was a Schoeps with a 41 capsule for inside, followed by a 2nd. I still have one of them.

Next was a CMIT, followed by another, which I often used inside and out.

Next was an MS pair of the tiny Schoeps, and then a tiny Schoeps 41.

Then came two x Super CMITs, which I used inside and out.

Most recently a pair of Neumann KMR 81Ds, the digital ones, which I use inside and out, and I love them to bits.

So - what do I use most often......

KMR81Ds for all outside, and some inside.

Schoeps 41s for inside

CMIT for radio pole

Schoeps MS pair for anything stereo.

Have fun, trust your ears, don't worry about the Schoeps/humidity issue - it hasn't bit me in the bum for 10 years or more. I believe Schoeps updated/changed stuff, and I believe it is pretty much a non issue now.

Good luck,

Simon B
