neeco13 Posted October 1, 2016 Report Posted October 1, 2016 Hi everybody. I recently purchased a SD 633 that I love. My only issue is with the internal slate mic, it sounds crapy, hi-medium with some resonnance. Do you have the same feeling with yours? It's no big deal but I'd like to know if mine has a problem, or if it's just normal. Thanks Quote
Mungo Posted October 1, 2016 Report Posted October 1, 2016 Mine doesn't sound good too. I can't junge if your's is worse. Maybe there's some dust or sand in that little slate mic hole? Some pressure air will probably help. Quote
John Blankenship Posted October 1, 2016 Report Posted October 1, 2016 Most slate mics sound like ... slate mics. Typically they're a tiny, inexpensive electret element placed behind a small panel opening. if you can understand the words, it"s a good slate mic -- if you can't, it's a bad one. If you desire better sound quality, that's when you'd use an external slate mic. Quote
neeco13 Posted October 1, 2016 Author Report Posted October 1, 2016 Ok. No I can understand what's being said on it but I expected something a bit better. On my Aeta Mixy the sound isn't that bad. There's not this medium dirty color. I don't think there's some dust on it as I noticed this when the unit was brand new. Quote
Philip Perkins Posted October 1, 2016 Report Posted October 1, 2016 The whole 6xx series has sucky slate mics. On my 664 I gave up and use an external one, which SD nicely left a port for. The only issue with that is that the mic powering is an odd voltage so a lot of mics (like Remote Audio) don't work. Ant Lion's do. Quote
neeco13 Posted October 1, 2016 Author Report Posted October 1, 2016 Unfortunately there's no port for it on the 633. Quote
Johnny Karlsson Posted October 1, 2016 Report Posted October 1, 2016 Yes, it's a slate mic, and does not need to sound like a Schoeps. I have however, when using it as Com on the 664 to talk to my boom op, in order to save their ears from bleeding, connected a Omnigoose > Ambient Eumel > XLR to TA3 > slate mic input. Note that his only makes sense because I had those bits already. I was looking at this as a possible slate mic for the 664: http://www.ebay.com/itm/222107775918?_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT But since I haven't tried this, I of course cannot say with any certainty that it will work... ivanovich Posted October 5, 2016 Report Posted October 5, 2016 Has anyone used the Remote Audio's modular cable design with built in slate mic? I like the idea of being able to switch cables with different phones but haven't had a chance to try one out yet. I wonder if the slate mic closer to the voice will make it sound better.....but yes, it's still a slate mic.... Quote
Philip Perkins Posted October 5, 2016 Report Posted October 5, 2016 It doesn't work with 664, and 633 has no slate mic input. Quote
