Shure Axient Digital ADX1M Transmitter

Got to handle this little fella yesterday: no sharp corners, talent skin friendly, no external antenna, rechargeable battery giving seven hours continuous. No portable receivers as yet, but rack-mounted 2 & 4 channel units can be 12 v dc powered. Not cheap, but very neat.

The Shure Axient Digital system is looking quite impressive.  What, with a bandwidth of 184Mhz, it's about the safest bet to avoid having your wireless becoming unusable / illegal  for many years to come.  I have serious doubts however that they will ever offer an ENG receiver.  See their web page:

Isn't it like 30mW max?

I got to play around with it this Monday, and the highest power setting was 25mW (if I remember correctly).

But it's digital phase-modulation transmission, so it's much more efficient compared to 25mW of analogue FM radio transmission.

The product specialist said something about an adaptive antenna design, that senses the distance to the body and compensate for the position. In what way, wasn't disclosed.

Anyway, we won't know how well it works until it's been put to work at theaters on sweating actors moving around on stage.

Yeah, I got a demo of the whole system, and it both sounded and worked really well. The ShowLink and frequency hopping are really useful features.

The way you can stack digital transmitters close to each other in frequency really makes digital radio more future proof.

Hi All.... I was planning to purchase 16 channels of the Axient Digital with the ADX transmitters, but now that pricing is available, the cost is too prohibitive for my pockets.  I found that by the time I pay the extra money for 16 ADX beltpacks and 8 ADX handhelds, the costs of multiple battery chargers (the ADX will ONLY use Shure's proprietory battery as opposed to the AD transmitters that can use AA's), the cost of the AD610 Access Point and the AXT600 Spectrum Manager (which are needed to take advantage of the additional features of the ADX transmitters). After some analysis i understood, the cost is higher from their side because they say the PCB costs them a lot where their system is embedded. I am not an expert, but i would recommend they should opt for PCB Turnkey assembly service to reduce their cost.
