Jeremiah Sheets
Anyone use the Avenger A5017 for boom pole? It's frequently used for client monitor. I get highly annoyed with how a C-Stand packs. Legs aren't super wide, but with a light pole and a sand bag it should be plenty sturdy. Plus wheels! Jeremiah Sheets
Ha! Well that isn't it, but not bad.
Philip Perkins
It works very well. Not light, but can handle a shotgun on a fully-extended boom (with a sandbag)--great for a "boom-plant" so to speak. I've also used it as a very high stand for heavy mics (LDCs) in an ORTF rig, and with an old aluminum boom bole have armed out a fairly heavy stereo mic over a drum kit. Very useful--but not small car friendly.
Jeremiah Sheets
Interesting. The unit I'm referring to breaks down quite small, though it would be better if the wheels were quick-release.
Jim Feeley
Awesome Tom! Jeremiah, what about C-Stands bugs you? Total length? Those damn legs? Would a C-Stand with a removable turtle base work for you? https://products.msegrip.com/products/40-c-stand-w-spring-loaded-turtle-base-includes-grip-head-arm

It too is very not light, but has worked well with a little homemade table-top as a roll-around bag-rest or ancillary cart. The boom stand I have is like what the guy in the pic above is hefting. Jeremiah Sheets
I actually like those *except* that the base is spring loaded. I wish they made exactly that without the spring base. Thanks, Philip! Maybe I'll just get it. If it causes any grief I'm sure a local grip will buy it off me. Hmm... I don't care for the merging of replies. Jeremiah Sheets
This was as light as a c-stand, which is obviously not as light as my go-to MERF stand, but not too heavy at all. I can see leaving this in my car. Think I'll get one and report back.

Brian Liston
I use a beefy baby. The fold nicely, are lighter than a C stand, and more sturdy. Plus I get props from the grips for having one.
Casey Preston
After much searching and trying both beefy babies and c stands, I went with this. It's not light, but the legs are low and wide and I don't feel the need to sandbag it. It is wider than the avenger equivalent. I also really like the wheels for when I need to do a last minute adjustment. https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/862398-REG/Kupo_ks300712_Junior_Roller_Stand_8_8.html
