OK all you CS-M1 aficionados... What mounts are you using with it?

 

Rycote INV-6?

Rycote KSM1?

Cinela OSIX 1? (or whatever's the correct mount; their website is "coming back soon.")

rycote inv-lite 19 For indoors

 

zep no10 for outdoors with olde skool rycote rubberbands and connbox (others recommended cinela but this setup worked best for me personally with some frankensteining parts on hand after lots of trial and error battling handling noise)

I have the INV-6 (black) and INV-6 Heavy (Gray) depending on if I'm using a furry or doing more running and gunning. 

I also use the Gray INV-6 with my DPA 4017c, as the black has a bit too much flx even with foam

Absolutely! Inside a vapid indoor practice field? Inside a large stage? Large warehouse?? Wideshots on top of the above? The cs-m1 would not be my 1st choice

Hi every one i'm a new user of the sanken CS M1 and asked directly osix's founder. The e-osix 4017C (designed for dpa) is "the most suitable mount for this mic". It really works well for me but with the standart foam you can't really move without hearing the air...i tried the small spacer kit but there's not enoutgh space between the mic and the osix so I switch to INV when moves are needed.

I just bought two of these mics finally. I’m using the rycote INV mount with black lyres in cold weather with a bubblebee windkiller indoors and outdoors. will have to put a grey/hard lyre on the front in the summer i suspect. the black ones get mushy in the sun.  haven’t bought a blimp yet, but may try and use my mkh50 blimp.

 

 i bought these for a show that needs good/small camera mics, and plan and ditching my 50’s after the show and moving to these. only boomed on day with them just to test them

out, but they were pretty nice to swing. light!  handling noise with a ktek classic pole and the tiny inv-6 mount was not an issue at all.

Just made a little video comparing a CS-M1 and a Neumann km185 in my studio. Not entirely scientific but I found it interesting!

Hi! Bumping an old thread!

 

I recently purchased  the Sanken CSM1 together with a Rycote Inv-6 HG.

 

I do feel that the Inv-6 is a bit to vulnerable to boom handling noise. Anyone tried another shock mount with success?

I personally have had the most success with the invision lite 19 mm But it’s a combination of the pole and mount that I think might help with my handling noise. I’m using a loon boom pole which unfortunately they don’t make any more. When it comes to Zeppelin‘s I had to go back to older ring style and a con box to find the right mix of rycote bits to help with handling noise and that seems to work well for me.

ha!  same with me.  have 2 of each.  liking the sankens way more.  really like them for wide/tight/slider 3 cam interviews.  there's enough reach to get it done for the wide and not rely on the wire or a longer shotgun that would be less forgiving with subject movement in the chair.  The 50 doesn't cut it in that situation.  it's a lovely sounding mic in lots of situations.  I use it indoor and out.  not loving my mount though.  I still put it in my old senny blimp that I use for the 50.  It's fine, but not ideal.  Like the look of the Medium cosi perhaps.  I have the INV mount with the black lyres (the light ones) and a bubblebee for interiors.  super light.  love it.

Hey, does this mount actually have room for the foam?  looks super tight.  thought about this one but wasn't sure i could make it go.  i'm leaning more and more towards cinela after using my INV6 for the last year. still pretty rough for handling noise. older carbon k-tek pole.

Yes the foam fits perfect for indoor use with space around it still clearing the mount bits

Hi! What foam do you use? Do you think the Bubblebee Spacer fit on there with the fur? It looks like there wouldn't be enough clearance. I'm considering getting the Cinela Cosi, but I'm worried about it getting crushed/damaged when I do remote shoots and have to pack very very light and also about the fact that you can't take the fur off, so I would need a separate mount when filming indoors. How delicate would you say the INV-Lite is compared to the INV 6HG? Could I throw it in a duffel bag padded with some socks and shirts and not worry about it getting damaged?

Hey JKM, here're my 2 ct.

Even if "remote" implies hiking or only hand luggage air travel, if you want  to shoot outdoors in gentle to medium breeze or gusts, you need a full sized blimp. My Cosi (L) is rather strudy and will survive a normal suitcase travel. For tightly packed luggage in the belly of an airplane I would look out for some generic food container (Ikea365+, Tupperware, etc). The same is a good practice for indoor mounts (Invision/(E)Osix) even in every day business. Invisions (none lite) can be modded with (DIN 653 like Cinela uses) short knurled screws (M3x10mm IIRC) for fast assembly.

In my applications, I hardly pick equipment for its packing features.

I occasionally use a furred Cosi indoors (currently L with MKH50, MKH8060 and MiniCMIT) on fast moves or in draft but mounting a Leo is usually faster applied. There is no necessity to get an extra indoor mount unless you are in the "fur is to be avoided,, 'cause all them high feq foo"camp. However the M1 will not shine in its shortness with it and the Cosi has a slightly higher weight and shadow profile than indoor mounts. You could order a fabric Cosi and get a 3rd party fur from Radius/Bubblebee for outdoor use. Then you have some sort of option on site. If you want by all means only one system for everything, you will end up with a detachable blimp system and all its implicit compromises. If the latter is the case, I'd wait for real life reviews for the upcoming Radius blimp or talk to Cinela about a Zephyx solution. The latter will likely exceed the price of your mic. I am not a fan of Rycote in general, though some products work well for me (INV Lite with MiniCMIT). None of their current blimps convince me, I have worked with all of them and own a Cyclone and a Nano for my SuperCMITs and MKH8060.
