ronmac
Has anyone sited or heard of MKH60 counterfeits? I am able to inspect prior to purchase, so I will look for obvious signs and do an audio test.
Eric Toline
416's yes, 60's no.
ronmac
Thanks, Eric. That is what I thought, but just trying to be forewarned/forearmed before I go check them out. I will take along my trusty MixPre and a set of phones to give them a listen. Cheers, Ron
Csaba Major
416 and 60 are totally different. 416 a working horse, but 60 is more focused but sometimes wierd sounded. I like more the 60. This is much more younger construction than 416. Outdoor the 60 much better than 416. Indoor booth of them are worst than example Neumann km185. But these are just my opinions. Aybe somebody else like more the 416... who knows.?

Aybe somebody else like more the 416... who knows.? This is OT of course, but I too switched from 416 to 60 after 12 years of ENG work! The reason was that I had to send the 416 to repair and tried a 60 as a temporary replacement. Much better off-axis sound, notably lower noisefloor. As indoor compromise less reflection sounds. The high gain switch is useful when you have to work with thick muffy furs.

Lancashire soundie
Probably referring to reflections off hard surfaces, such as booming in a concrete room. I've used an MKH60 for 20 years now, never been serviced, still in perfect working order. Don't think I'll ever change it tbh, it's a workhorse.
