I believe the difference is that Cineeye has an internal battery only, and the Eagle Eye a removable one. Both feed up to four devices.

Accsoon solved the battery problem by introducing the CineEye Air, which is even cheaper ($149) and requires an external power source (DC or USB-C). The Hollyland 400S lives in both worlds (monitor/receiver pair and it transmits to phones). I requested that they offer just the transmitter and that option was recently made available if you just want it for tablets and phones.

Hollyland just introduced the Mars X as a competitor to the Accsoon CineEye  that is smaller than the Mars 400s, HDMI-only and does not pair up with a  receiver, but just sends wi-fi to tablets and phones. What may not be interesting to the audio department is that all of these products allow you to use a rich set of features including false color, wavform, zebras, etc. What might be useful to the audio department is that one of them (I can't remember which) allows you to take a snapshot on your tablet/phone and make notes on it.

Note that the Hollyland 400S has a fan on it that some find objectionable, so don't rush out to buy it until you understand the fan noise.

Regarding apps for phones and tablets for these products, reviews indicate that support on Android is spotty. I've not been able to find a list of compatible phones/tablets from any of the vendors for any of these products. You have to buy it and hope for the best or be prepared to buy a new phone/table.

Seems the CineEye Air only supports two devices at once unfortunately, but that won't be a dealbreaker for some:

Just ordered a hollyland Mars, excited to check it out. Also If anyone is thinking about getting one they are $200 off today at B&H and adorama (ends 7 July).

Very cool. Let us know how it works out for you.

The Eagle Eye is nice because it has a removable rechargeable battery that lasts four hours and USB external power as well. The Hollyland deal is pretty nice - I don't know how many devices it will link to, but the biggest difference to me between it and the Eagle Eye & CineEye is size; the latter two are very small. Although I'm a DP, I find the video tools pretty useless and they can be removed easily .I prefer the iPad for monitor as the image is great, client friendly, and audio easily monitored, all without the receiver/battery/calibrated monitor required by TerraDeck. Nice to have so many new options, all with less and less latency.

Vaxis is having a substantial sale on their Atom 500. This is a budget (meaning latency) system  similar to the Hollyland Mars 400S in that it has both a transmitter/receiver pair and also transmits via wi-fi to phones/tablets. Now $299.

Have you got any experience with the Eagleeye vs the Cineeye? The former seems to be even cheaper, is the performance on par?

FYI - no SDI

I don't plan to buy one of these inexpensive systems. I'm more worried about having to deal with the fallout/noise/RFI/whatever if they show up on jobs...

Oh that reminds me: My Accsoon would mess up the Teradek receiver placed close to it (and where it got its picture from). Thankfully, the video op was helpful and brought a long t-bar along and spaced them out at the far ends. Then it worked fine

Accsoon is really hitting their stride in this market. Someone on another forum spotted this item on ebay which has not been announced on their website. Now we have a small, inexpensive unit with HDMI and SDI and uses external batteries. It's checking off all of the items on my list. This is a very nice package. It also transmits audio, a new feature for this level of video transmitter.

Yow. You going to order one?

It's very tempting. All of the models up until this one have been missing something for my needs and I've felt as though the low-cost video transmitter market was making improvements very rapidly and there was more room for improvement. This one finally hits all the marks for me. But I've never been an early adopter, so no, not yet. My shelves and garbage can are filled with things that came and went. I'm more resistant to buying new toy... er, tools now.

Have you guys considered NDI? Bird Dog make really cheap full bandwidth NDI HDMI encoders which you can view on a laptop, iPad or phone. NDI HX is easier to pass over WiFi, and encoders are available from a bunch of companies like Kiloview. It’s definitely not the neatest solution, but because its just regular IP you can use specialised point to point APs from Ubiquiti, cable if its available (which can be helpful when you’re inside a building). It is also point to multipoint so there is no real limit on how many receivers you can use. You obviously still have the issue that you’re in the WiFi band, but at least you have the choice of channels with the Ubiquiti gear, and can even upgrade to WiFi6.

Excited to hear your thoughts – this is the second time I've seen that box on sale, so if it is any good, maybe I'll grab it on its third time around

Used the hollyland on one job, full disclosure I wasn’t mixing this one, it as an MOS commercial with a crew I work with a lot. We had turn the hollyland off after an hour because it was interfering with our teradek too much. Can’t confirm it was the issue and going to do more testing later, but any time the hollyland was on we couldn’t get a solid picture on our directors feed.

I’m almost positive part of the issue was close distance to each device, we had a teradek on the camera broadcasting to the AC and video village, the hope was the have a small handheld monitor for the director to walk around with then a large monitor for the rest of the producers to look at. So we had a teradek receiver on the large monitor than output to the hollyland to go to directors monitor and other devices. The teradek was close to the holly there so again, pretty sure that was the issue. Going to do some more testing with it and I’ll report back. I’ll also try it with some wireless to see if it interferes with any of that as well.

Yeah I think this is the biggest problem with dipping your toes into wireless video as a sound mixer.. the second the camera department has any issue with their wireless feeds they’re going to ask you (maybe demand) that you kill your cheap BS video transmitter because it’s causing their issue... Whether that’s actually the case or not. So you’re going to need a backup plan anyway. (BNC cable)
