\Rado boss,

Have you tested the auto scan auto assign to transmitters feature they were implementing?,  does it work well?,  as in it mutes the TX, scans,  assigns and you're back in action?

Now if only they can implement the type of system Shure Axient does, where it can reassign and change freq on both RX and TX within a couple milliseconds. Then again, that's why those systems run for so much more $$$ than anything else.

Of course we can change frequencies automatically during a production.  At this point I do not see a need as the transmission reliability of the system does not require it. I would rather the sound mixer select frequencies  through our auto pick selection when they are ready to do so and all transmitters can be disabled to provide an accurate scan.

for example, if we have 6 talent out on set,    is there a single operation to disable all 6 TX,  scan,  auto pick, assign and enable the TX again?,  or is it manually disabling each of the 6,  scan and choose?,    Be cool if there was a single "I'm feeling lucky" button.  The trust zaxcom, and it re assigns all 6 with 1 button.

We went through and era of 20-30 pounds bags hanging unnaturally on the front of our bodies. A lot of people are experiencing pain and serious injuries and if there are not at the moment a lot of them will in the future. This issue was an eye opener for me when I got extreme back pain that prevented me to move screaming in pain for two weeks. I had my wife help me pee and shit while I was crying in pain. I apologies for being graphic but I really want to express the importance of this issue that companies seam to overlook. I was helped by Boxing trauma specialists with a PHD and he enlightened me about the seriousness of the damage we cause to our bodies. This is what forced my pursuit for lighter bags and less weight. We are not mules and everything we do right now for $600 a day will have to be payed back in the future for surgeries and hospital bills. And once you get back problems there is no solution. It only gets worst with time.

On the bright side Nova “OneUnit” “being....OneUnit 🙂 ” eliminates the need for rigid, big, heavy and expansive bags!  No need to assemble giant bricks of gear together, have all that combined chassis weight and heavy electronics assembled in bags that weight in a lot of cases as much as the gear they carry! No need for a constant waste of time redoing bag setups cable management and dealing with analog/rf noise, and ground loop power issues.  I realistically will reduce all the sound crap I owe by 2 thirds.

All the amazing advantages mentioned combined with the total weight of my bag under or around 5 pounds “battery wireless and bag included” makes me an efficient and faster mixer, makes me very happy and most importantly MAKES MY BACK VERY HAPPY!

Cheers

Thank you for this in-depth review.  Very useful information here and I can't believe the kit that is being squeezed into a package of this size and weight.  Just want to comment on this back-pain issue as its something that a lot of us in this line of work deal with, myself included.  I too suffered for over a dozen years with what was at times crippling and demoralizing back pain, unable to work or even move for days at a time.  During my last episode, in screaming pain, I became suspicious of what was causing this pain.  At this point a friend of mine suggested a book called "Healing Back Pain:  The Mind-Body Connection" by Dr. Sarno.  I won't delve into its contents here as I realize that further discussion of this topic warrants its own thread but I can't help but suggest it to anyone suffering this kind of pain as it cured me 100%.  I haven't had back pain for 5 years now and haven't taken Ibuprofen for as long either.   I know Its tempting to think that a book-as-medicine is snake oil  but I promise you it isn't.  I'll leave it at that for now, maybe it will work for you, maybe it won't, but its an easy 180 page read and the best $10 I ever spent.  Hope this helps someone.

100+ days update

Running Nova OneUnit since the beginning in the end of august has been free of any major issues and only had minor bugs remembering settings and unavailable options. My Nova OneUnit has been used almost every day and I am already over 100 days of operation. The evolution of the software and the interface was strong and became more and more powerful. The RF reception value on the corresponding recording track is a game changer in the way we work. Time Code is rock solid. Analog front end and output/monitoring sound great. RF Range is well above previous zaxcom gear and the swift control over zaxnet was perfected to become so easy and fast. having 8 wireless receivers in such a small box is still something that awes me every day. I dont have to break my back anymore. I have been using 1.69 since Howy released it and consider it to be a major point for bug free operation. There was a lot of work done by zaxcom and the beta testers and there is a lot more work "and extra hardware 1f642.png" to be done. Looking at the prioritized list of future development there is a lot of good things coming. But as of the week before the holidays most of the Nova OneUnit has been complete. Zaxcom delivered the product. Now they just need to deliver it to the many users that want it and have it preordered

Thank you, Rado, for the 100+ day update  ---  Nova continues to impress and your real world - real usage reviews are very much appreciated. Throughout my career I resisted doing "bag work" (and I am not demeaning the work because it is some of the most difficult and challenging work there is), I was fortunate enough to stay busy for 46+ years doing primarily feature films, working off of a sound cart. In retirement now, I realize I have missed out on the chance to use this amazing recorder-mixer-wireless, I might have even enjoyed doing work out of a bag. Zaxcom Digital Wireless did of course transform my world with many years of incredible performance, features and sound quality, but using Nova would have been a real treat. Truly deserving of the phrase I have only used appropriately a few times in my career:  "Game changer".

Dr Sarno is amazing and his books are nothing short of miraculous. I’m glad you’re better now— it’s yet another example of the efficacy of Dr Sarno’s “treatment” and the overall power of the mind.

Cheers,

Evan

it’s an honor and privilege. And thank you for turning me to ZAXCOM and giving me all the valuable advises through the years. It changed my carrier and led to the invention of my OneUnit that turned on it’s self in to the perfect execution of Zaxcom Nova OneUnit. So in a way it is thanks to you Jeff Wexler that Nova OneUnit exist. I and the rest of community owes you so much!

Great piece of gear, its about the size of a FP33, so impressed by the weight and built in slot receivers, but coming from a sound devices world i was completely lost :( i checked Youtube and downloaded the manual, managed to get a few things started but still lost. its a very difficult process to understand when your use too something else, was my first experience with the (demo) mixer and though i could learn it in a week but i was sadly mistaken. Anyways cheers to you all zaxcom users that will have healthy backs with this excellent product.
