Brian Milliken
Hi All Can anyone explain the difference between the MK41 and the MK41v, it refers to side address in the blurb, does anyone have any direct experience of having compared them. Kindest Regards Brian
tourtelot
"V" is side address, no "V" is front address. Being that they are Schoeps products, my guess is that they will sound completely the same if correctly oriented. Is there more to your question than this? D. Brian Milliken
Hi Douglas, what does side address mean in real life. ?
soundtrane
from someone who has not used them, i guess they are good for micing in concert situations... and i remember seeing a stereo rig on the schoeps site using these... -vin
Brian Milliken
So are they just too wide for dialogue in our sense.
Guest BobD
MK41 is typically the super cardioid capsule... We have used these for Dialog, indoors for YEARS!!! Great mic... The "V' Who knows.... I would think it is still a super cardioid mic... The MK4 was the Cardioid pattern...
Ron Lacheur
Hi Douglas, what does side address mean in real life. ? The pickup is located on the side of the mic capsule rather than the top like the regular MK41.
soundtrane
Brian, have you explored the usage of the side address version on the schoeps site? Now, i am really confused about exactly WHAT you are asking... -vin
jonathan chiles
Hey Brian I havnt used the MK41V but it is, as you probably know by now, the side addressed version of the more common (axially addressed) MK41. ie if booming from above the axis of the mic would be horizontal with the 41V. I would look at the polar pattern etc on the schoeps site and maybe email schoeps as well to clarify, but I think there are some slight sonic differences with the pattern and freq response due to the way the capsule is housed. It seems like the regular MK41 cap would be more versatile. Jon Chiles
Guest BobD
If all is close to equal other than the side of mic thing, than the normal MK41 would be a better choice..... In the event you want to sell it, it is better accepted and might bring a better opportunity for resale later....
