Philip Perkins
Help me, fellow oldsters! I have a gig for which I need to use my venerable but neglected Nagra IV-S. The machine is still set up for 3M 968. Is there a 1/4" tape currently being made that uses close to the same setup+bias etc? ATR? 7" reels needed, plan to use Nagramaster..... IronFilm
Am super curious as to what gig needs a Nagra in almost 2020?
Philip Perkins
One directed by an analog-worshipping millennial. Nagramaster (15ips) is beautiful thing.
Mike Westgate
Hi Philip, In the lack of any information I would simply do a test at -20dB of tone fro 1K to 15K in order to see if the tape you have gives a realistically flat response. If you get into re-biasing you would also need to adjust record amp for H2 and H3 distortion I used to align my two 4.2 recorders and got it down to a fine and satisfying art Good luck mike

Philip Perkins
There is still plenty of use of stereo Nagras in the classical world, and plenty of tape avail, although it’s way pricey. Like I said....Nagramaster.....!
Patrick Farrell
I've used RMGI tape in the recent past with good results but it seems the formulas were once again bought and now distrubuted by Recording The Masters. I'm not old enough to know the setup specs for 968 but RTM has thorough documentation so you can find a formula that matches closest.
