Turn ordinary G3 reciever into usable IEM

Recommended Posts

Maybe this is of interest for some here. Here is how I turned an ordinary Sennheiser G3 receiver to function as an IEM, have appropriate levels and have sound in both ears for around 30 bucks.

TLTR

Behringer P2

Hopefully it is interesting for anyone!

But a $20-$30 portable battery HP amp and tie the L&R terminals together when you make the adapter cable. With a standard 3.5mm TRS patch cable, standad stereo HPs would only have sound on the left side.

It’s a workable solution, but I would never ask a director or anyone else to carry all this around this all day. Might be ok for a boom op, but even for them I would try to avoid. They are (in my case) already carrying the receiver and the return transmitter.
Spending money on the Comtek/IEM equipment is not really exciting, but I think it’s best to present a pretty simple and neat solution
