Aaton trade-in

What is happening with all these trade in deals! They are devaluing the used market way too much.

With Aaton it may not make a difference, but with Sound Devices if their users can gain more money selling their old recorder they might be able to spend more on a new one (it might be the difference between a 888 and a Scorpio).

Quite unusual, Aaton is proposing a special deal if you sell them back your 688, 644, Nomad or Deva recorder and buy a Mini or an X3....

That is surprising indeed! Normally (but of course not always) manufacturers limit trade ins to their own products.

Wonder what will happen to all the recorders which get traded in, obviously they won't be pulled apart and refurbished to help keep stocks up of dwindling replacement parts for repairs.

It was kind of Aaton to take the heat off Sound Devices, by offering this themselves as well! ha

An alternative positive perspective to take on this instead:
There might now be a lot less 688/664 for sale on the secondhand market. Less of them for sale = higher prices for those that remain, as you'll have the same number of buyers competing for fewer 688/664 recorders for sale.

Imagine you're a large rental house with a dozen 688/664 in stock, that you're going to trade in and upgrade to a fleet of 888 instead.
How much lower would the pricing for your secondhand 688/664 be on eBay if you had to compete against a dozen extra other listings for 688/664 on eBay vs if you're the only listing available to buy?

So I'm presuming your plan now is to buy a ton of 6-series', maxx's and nomads'?

I don't understand how this devaluing used market. Used market it's up to buyer if will use the money to buy something new regarding technology or give it for medical hospital reasons or whatever reason is. Trade-in market, to take that deal you have to buy their new line. It's different.
