Mack Posted October 13, 2020 Report Posted October 13, 2020 I just saw in a FB group that Eric passed away this morning. Such a loss. I learned a great deal from him and am sad for his passing. RIP.
absound Posted October 13, 2020 Report Posted October 13, 2020 He was a great teacher and sharer of knowledge that I too will miss. RIP.
Izen Ears Posted October 13, 2020 Report Posted October 13, 2020 Oh no! I got to know him over the phone and had a number of great conversations with him. I look forward to meeting him someday. What a bummer. RIP sir.
Philip Perkins Posted October 13, 2020 Report Posted October 13, 2020 He was a hero to me--continuing to mix on location well into old age, then setting himself up as a very knowledgeable and helpful local dealer of sound gear. He was a soundie to the end, never stopped working and helping other sound people.
Jeff Wexler Posted October 13, 2020 Report Posted October 13, 2020 Eric was a dear friend, founding father of the annual r.a.m.p.s. party at NAB, I think I met Eric first at the Lagoon Saloon over 30 years ago at the first party. I am going to miss him terribly.
John Blankenship Posted October 13, 2020 Report Posted October 13, 2020 Sad day -- he will be greatly missed.
Doc Justice Posted October 13, 2020 Report Posted October 13, 2020 Eric was one of a kind, and helped mold all of us in his image. Though I didn’t get to know him until later in life, he had a great impact on me. I, and the community, will miss him.
RomanH Posted October 13, 2020 Report Posted October 13, 2020 So sad to hear of his passing, like many i found him to be the go-to source of knowledge for everything cables on this site. And after learning all the pin outs of hirose, XLRs etc. I think I can still learn a great deal about mentoring and sharing knowledge from his virtual estate. Condolences to his family and friends. I will think about you when i put my shiny silver headphones on Mr Toline!
Constantin Posted October 13, 2020 Report Posted October 13, 2020 Oh no, how sad. Even though I only knew him through this site, I still learned a lot from him and could tell what an outstanding person he was. He will be missed
Sound Intuition Posted October 13, 2020 Report Posted October 13, 2020 Even though I never got to meet Eric face to face I considered him not only a incredible wealth of knowledge for all things sound but a friend. I was lucky enough to have been able to chat with Eric every weekend for the last several years. I would recomend people watch the podcast posted here from Joseph Boyle and inspired by Rachel Cameron about Eric. He will be missed. "And you do What"?
Dalton Patterson Posted October 14, 2020 Report Posted October 14, 2020 I wish 2020 would pass away. I'm all out of tears. I met him in Vegas a few years back. I had no concept of his achievements. I could tell he was a big deal, he was very polite and cool with me. Eric posted a comment in one of my threads and I noticed immediately.
soundwiz Posted October 14, 2020 Report Posted October 14, 2020 A big loss to the community, great teacher and mixer, may his soul RIP
Rick Reineke Posted October 15, 2020 Report Posted October 15, 2020 So sorry to hear this. I talked to Eric a few times on the phone. He was really nice guy and very knowledgeable with wiring info for Tx connectors and such. Condolences to family and friends RIP Eric
Hollandaudio Posted October 15, 2020 Report Posted October 15, 2020 Just saw on FB and am very sorry. I had spoke to him a few times on the phone. Condolences to his family.
foliver Posted October 16, 2020 Report Posted October 16, 2020 Eric was an invaluable colleague, I learned a lot with him, I don’t remember if my firsts exchange were in CAS forum, or later in Ramps, great humor, what a peety.
Hugh Holesome Posted October 21, 2020 Report Posted October 21, 2020 A great loss to this community for sure. I sent a lot of items to him over the years for repair and he was always a phone call away for my boneheaded questions. I do have to say that he had been ailing for some time and I was unable to get answers from him over the whereabouts of some repairs that he had done. He proudly insisted on not shipping until he had built the custom cables I asked for. Even after I said the customs were no big deal, he claimed he would get to them. He never did and the repairs never shipped. It was probably last fall that I last messaged him with no answer, yet 2 or 3 weeks ago, the story of not having something on a gig because it was somewhere in Ft. Lauderdale was still entertaining a new and different crew! He was a great man and resource, truly. If anyone thinks my little box of cables and mic repairs still exist somewhere, I'm all ears. RIP Eric.
Sound Kraft Posted October 21, 2020 Report Posted October 21, 2020 Did not know this man except from his postings on this site. The guy seemed like a legend for sure. Sorry to hear of this...
RadoStefanov Posted October 22, 2020 Report Posted October 22, 2020 Eric Toline was a very important figure in my life and one of the only people who embraced me even though I was a strange mouthy eastern European immigrant. We use to talk on the phone often and also hang out when he was in Las Vegas for NAB. Eric changed my life. For real. I would not be where I am if it was not for him. Back in 2012 I was thinking about moving to Los Angeles. I told him about my plans when I was driving him from his hotel to the airport. He seriously turned to me and said: DONT DO IT! STAY HERE IN LAS VEGAS. If you go to Los Angeles you will be a small fish in a big pond. But if you stay in Las Vegas you will be a BIG FISH in a small pond. Well as usual I listened. And it was the best decision I have ever made. Eric was right. Eric was the most significant person in my life after my parents. I LOVE HIM. AND I MISS HIM. I hope he is sipping rum and fishing up there!!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
cjh Posted October 26, 2020 Report Posted October 26, 2020 Hi Eric, never met you but read your helpful advice many times. Thank you for all you have done for our industry, much respect. Rest in a nice peaceful landscape, no looping up there eh.
enginufuk Posted January 10, 2021 Report Posted January 10, 2021 A bit late but.. I’m very sorry to hear this. So many valuable information he has shared! Never met him in person but via messages he tried to help me on a project... Great knowledge. Thanks for all Eric! RIP.
foliver Posted January 11, 2021 Report Posted January 11, 2021 I remember Eric on CAS forum, 20 years ago, as in RAMPS. It was a loss
The Immoral Mr Teas Posted March 4, 2021 Report Posted March 4, 2021 Been away from JWS for quite some time. RIP Eric, and thanks! Jez x
