Snyderman
I recently purchased a used COS-11 that works only on my older, non-backlit SMQV's and SMV's. In terms of gain it's pretty identical to my other COS-11's, though it does sound a bit different. On my newer, backlit SMQV's and SMV's, it's just static and popping. I had similar results with my um400 and um400a; the microphone worked perfectly with the 400, but was much quieter and fuzzy on the 400a. Could this have to do with the wiring? I've read a lot about servo bias vs universal wiring with regards to the um400 vs 400a, but is this also an issue with the SMQV/SMV?
Dean Slotness
Wiring is the most likely suspect in this case. Verify that the Sanken COS-11 is wired as shown in figure 5 of the following: https://www.lectrosonics.com/Support/Microphone-Wiring/uhf-transmitter-5-pin-input-jack-wiring.html
Snyderman
I just opened it up, and yes, it is indeed wired as shown in figure 5.
