brightnight
I'm going to be recording sounds outdoors for months at a time and have a recorder in a waterproof box, but my mic will be outdoors outdoors and I need a way to get the 3 pin XLR cable into the box and keep it water proof. I’m looking at XLR bulk connectors similar to the attached picture. In terms of audio quality, are all bulkheads or connectors created equal, or is anything from Amphenol going to work well in terms of quality? Lastly, if anyone has a suggestion on a waterproof bulkhead male/female XLR connectors that are waterproof-ish and won’t cause any audio issues I'd love to head it
Constantin
Can‘t you just drill a hole into your box and pass you cables through that and then sort if seal it with some rubber material? There are tons of XLR panel connectors if that is what you are looking for? such as this: https://www.canford.co.uk/NEUTRIK-XLR-PANEL-CONNECTORS-D-LX-HA-series-Crimp there‘s also a variant that doesn’t require soldering. Neutrik also sell a line of plugs that waterproof. Or at least water resistant

Maybe I should consider this option as it cuts down on connectors.

You can still replace the mic, just not the cable - except if you could open the box
ryanpeds
Neutral sells a heavy duty version that is outdoor and water rated. They have males, females and chassis connectors. The male model number is NC3MX-HD

lazajamsonic
@Sound Grab 's recommendation is spot on, the Neutrik TOP connector looks like your best bet for quality.https://www.neutrik.com/en/neutrik/products/xlr-connectors/xlr-chassis-connectors/top-series What is your mic setup like for the field recordings?? You might consider getting a 5-pin XLR cable out of your mic setup, to reduce the number of connectors you have to handle and build into your waterproof recorder box.
