RadoStefanov
Sennheiser dont have parts to repair my older mkh8060 and are charging me full price for a new mic instead of repairing it. I am sure if it was a live or studio equipment they will never pull a BS so outrages. I have a 20 years old Neuman that I bet they can repair. Also why not call the mic 8060 markII or Version2 so the customers are aware of the changes?
codyman
That's disconcerting. When did they change the model?

RadoStefanov
Considering the first batches of mkh8060 were deflective and it took a long time for Sennheiser to own to it and service even mics which failed out of warranty, I am hopeful Sennheiser will find out a less outrages solution. but who knows? henrimic
In 2016, I sent mine (first batch) to Sennheiser after the warranty and they simply replaced it for free. They were aware of the defect and didn’t argued. For the subsequent series, they just added a distinctive ring so you can differentiate it. I am in Europe, so maybe the mothership has another warranty politic than the US representative.

But now they have an even newer version than your and my mic.
Mattias Larsen
Odd indeed. I live in Germany and their service have been nothing short of stellar and very quick. I got my first repair (G3 IEM display) free and the 2nd one (Noisy G3 TX) for a fair amount. Also that you hear that you can get your mkh 50 modded to the new standard for a few hundred euros, that is some fantastic long support. Dont they have some sort of cap for what it costs to fix an item? Try talk directly to Germany maybe?
Constantin
This is really weird. I would second calling the office. Make sure you call the office in Barleben which where they have their service center. They are apparently not very coherent with their repair policies. For example, I asked Neumann about an rf fix for my KMR81, to which they replied it couldn’t be done. Then I heard from a dutch colleague that Sennheiser does in fact offer such a fix. So who knows what’s going in there, but it’s definitely worth asking around a bit before buying a new mic. Let us know how you get on
IronFilm
That's crazy! The 8060 is meant to be their latest "current model".

I have a pair of mkh404 mics (yes they’re ancient I know) and Sennheiser said that they didn’t even have a record of ever manufacturing them! Crazy because you can find some documentation about these mics by doing a google search. But it is likely that whomever you speak with may just be giving you the runaround because they don’t want to deal with the paperwork. I would hope that they have better people on board than that though.

Also why not call the mic 8060 markII or Version2 so the customers are aware of the changes? Something is really squirrelly with this. I'd take it up the chain and advise someone at the executive level and ask them if this is really how they do business. Sure, it's understandable that they don't have parts for an older unit. But to charge full price. That's just not right. They should at least offer to return the device. Then you have the option to buy new or used or buy something else. You also could sell the bad one on ebay for parts. To sell you another one for full price. That is shameful. What if a car dealer did that when you went in to get shocks changed? "Hey Paul, we don't have those shocks for your car anymore. Here's a new 2021 car at full-victim pricing instead"
tourtelot
Hey Rado- I just had a similar experience with Sennheiser USA repairs. I have an MKH80 that I had purchased on eBay. As with any mic I buy used from someone I don't know, I send it back to service for a quick checkup. I got a UPS notice on the day the shop received it that it was coming back. Wow, what quick service. So I called to ask what they had found. They pulled up the record and said that it had never made it past the mail room where it had been turned around without ever seeing a technician. They "no longer serviced MKH80 mics. EOL". I went crazy! A more than $2000 mic that was less than 10-years-old? EOL? I immediately wrote Sennheiser in Germany and got some help from a big EU dealer and got official and non-official communications from Germany making certain that the USA shop did and would indeed service the MKH80. Back it went and I just got the invoice yesterday. $120 for a checkup and a few parts. It's on it's way home good as new. Give Scott Parker, the manager of the service department, a call to see if what you hear is correct. He is a good guy and a straight shooter, (860) 434-9190. I hope you find that, as with me, the information you received was incorrect. Best, D. newzhack
I blasted Sennheiser a couple of years ago for not sending me my rebate check. It turned to that the envelope had been pushed under a pile of junk mail, It was my fault. They reissued the check, that took a while. But in the end it was my fault. henrimic
It’s seems that Sennheiser want to concentrate their business on the professional users. https://en-us.sennheiser.com/newsroom/sennheiser-to-reposition-its-business-units-independently-of-each-other-s5jh2n Maybe some good news for us ...
