Sennheiser MKH416 vs Deity V-Mic D3

Friday I did a tape sync for BBC and used a 416 to a Zoom F8 as primary and the V-Mic D3 through the Deity BP-TRX as backup (it was also about 5" further from interviewee), applied a slight low boost to V-Mic in post: MKH416 vs V-Mic D3 on YouTube

obviously clarity with the 416 is better but I was surprised how passable the backup was for a sub-$100 mic

"Phasing" is obvious in the V-mic recording, but it must be due to the greater distance. So... it does not tell much about the respective qualities of both microphones. However, that is a very good example of the importance of close miking when using shotgun microphones indoor.
