Wandering Ear Posted June 23, 2023 Report Posted June 23, 2023 Just finished a week with 2x S35's. They initially wouldn't take tc when set to Jan sync, but had no issue when set to Regen. Tried both ERX and JB1. Can't say I noticed any more noise from them vs the LF when rolling. Quote
Jim Rillie Posted June 23, 2023 Report Posted June 23, 2023 over the years with ArriAlexa variants, Regen has always worked for us. This is the way ;-} Quote

He said there is (still) a bug (as of mid-January) that resets the levels on the audio module every time the camera is powered down. Had an experience with this and wanted to report the fix for anyone that finds themselves with the same issue. I experienced this with the module on an Alexa 35. Hop feeding Ch 1, all is good with tone and dialogue test. About an hour later I notice the meter blasting red. I go and adjust the level, only to have it repeat the issue an hour later. Every power cycle/batt swap of the camera, levels reset. This happened because the unit had sat on a resellers shelf with an older firmware version that was loaded at Sonosax. THE FIX: Update the firmware to the newest version. The DP that updated the firmware said it was a bit of a pain as process is a little wonky. So here are the steps as he describes them: Load in new firmware, restart camera, do a factory reset, restart camera, change the settings like you want them, restart the camera. This is what he said he had to do for the new firmware to "take". Your mileage may vary, but wanted to include all details. Other than that the module is great and I'm happy to have this instead of the 6-pin affair. Cheers, y'all! Quote

Phillip C Dent Posted April 30, 2024 Report Posted April 30, 2024 I just worked with the AEM-1 yesterday and got burned. I set my audio input to aes in, but when the camera power cycled it reset to mic in and phantom power on. So the audio for the interview did not get recorded on the camera. I had the audio on the b cam and my 664 and everything was jammed, but I had to have the fun conversation of letting production know that there was no audio on the A Cam. I also did not put my Lectro M2R on the camera as a hop when we went into Verite mode, so as not to fry it again. I’ll pass on the firmware update to the owner of the camera. Quote

For the record the software of the AEM-1 is made by Arri (and not Sonosax). Quote

IMHO the sound is the sound dep responsability. Even checking for problems on the camera sound, metering, updating softwares and chansing bugs, or declare : it's not yet a tool to record sound. Quote
Phillip C Dent Posted November 28, 2025 Report Posted November 28, 2025 I worked with two Alexa 35’s the other day. I was concerned that I would have issues again with the buggy Sonosax aem-1. I was relieved when the 1st AC told me that he’s had so many problems with it that he never uses it anymore and instead uses the tried and true A-Box. The shoot went off without a hitch. Quote
edward chick Posted November 28, 2025 Report Posted November 28, 2025 Yeah, the Sonosax audio box is buggy. I had to reboot an Arri Alexa a couple times on a job, it was not getting audio via the Sonosax. A boxes have been around a while and have rock solid performance. Quote
RadoStefanov Posted November 28, 2025 Report Posted November 28, 2025 Have not had problems with the sonosax including new s35. Quote
