Jim Gilchrist
Michael Nesmith turned 71 yesterday. He might have written the best breakup song ever. Linda Ronstadt probably thinks so. John Denver would have been 70 today. Not one of his hits (sorry, Bill D.) this is probably my favorite John Denver performance.
Jeff Wexler
Thank you, Jim, for both of these. I remember so well ("like it was yesterday") seeing John Denver in local clubs around Los Angeles, way before he was "John Denver". I did get to see Linda with the Stone Poneys at the Troubadour performing this wonderful song. Those were the days.
old school
I love music. It makes every year that I've been around special. Happy New Year to all music lovers. I hope more music comes in to your life and lights your way through 2014. Remember to share the good stuff. Cheers. CrewC
Jim Gilchrist
What a lovely thought, Crew. Thanks. Today would have been Elvis's 79th birthday. Do YOU know where your Elvis is? http://youtu.be/SdDIKONSDUM Wishing all of you a safe, happy and prosperous 2014! Jim

Jim Gilchrist
On my radio today is James Jamerson (January 29, 1936 - August 2, 1983), the primary bassist for Motown Records' session band the Funk Brothers, who would have been 78 today. He played on most of the Motown hits in the 1960s and early 1970s and he is now regarded as one of the most influential bass players in modern music history. He performed on 30 number-one hits, more than any person or group in music history, and on more than 70 number-one R&B hits, also the most ever. He went uncredited until the release of Marvin Gaye's landmark LP "What's Going On" in 1971.
