Richard Lightstone, CAS
I am re-posting this with apologies to all MS PC fans, especially those that think Window 7 is the "cat's ass". This is a reply by Bruce Jones of Lectrosonics to a user who is having trouble getting his Windows 7 to "see" his Venue USB connection on Lecnet 2. Just reading how to "fix" the issue is enough for me to kiss my MacBook Pro. Re: Windows 7 Sorry for the delay. Windows 7 looks the same as XP with regard to the control panel, systems settings for USB, etc. So your fix is pretty simple. The easiest way to make the USB drivers available for the Windows New Hardware Found Wizard is to have the files on a removable disk or flash drive that is connected to the computer when the Wizard opens. If you have the LecNet2 Installation disk, put it in the drive and then stop the installation, but leave the disk in the drive. If you don't have the Installation disk, the files will be located on your hard drive. The default location is: c:\program files\Lectrosonics\LecNet2\drivers. Copy this folder to a CD or flash drive and leave it in the bay or USB socket (whichever you are using). Connect the Venue to the USB port and turn it on. If you are really lucky, the New Hardware Found Wizard will open. If not, follow the steps below. Click on Start > Control Panel > System > Hardware > Device Manager Scroll down to the item titled Universal Serial Bus controllers. Double click it or click on the + sign to open the list of installed devices. Look for one that has some question marks () in the name. Right click on this one and then click on Update Driver. The New Hardware Found Wizard will open. Follow the prompts and click on the following options: No, not this time > Next > Install from a list or specific location (Advanced) > Check the box to Search removable media > Next The OS should find the Drivers folder on either the disk or flash drive in the machine and update the USB driver. Sorry to put you through all this, but this is what happens with Windows when it tries to configure a new USB device and the drivers are not available on the first attempt. Let us know if you still have a problem. Best regards, Bruce RL
Marc Wielage
I actually had this happen with an XP system -- some kind of weird driver issue that initially prevented LecNet from working on a little Asus EEPC I own. One call to Lectro support, and I was able to just download the needed drivers elsewhere and have them accessible on a thumb drive, and all was well. Zero problems since. Mac OSX has its share of problems, too (and don't get me started on Snow Leopard). As much as I'm a Mac guy, I don't hate Windows. It's just another annoying tool, like anything else. --Marc W. Derek H
Actually if you're familiar with troubleshooting windows the above scenario is a walk in the park! Windows can throw a lot worse at you than that! I actually haven't used Windows 7 enough to have much of an opinion on it.. it looks nice.. I guess With my limited experience on OSX I've found that most things work great out of the box but on the occasion where you actually do need to do some stuff under the hood it can be a real scavenger hunt to figure out..
