Skypecasts

For those who aren't familiar with it, Skype is a way to have voice discussions over the internet. It is hot technology, it works and it is free. Skype is currently experimenting with what it calls Skypecasts, which are essentially conference calls that can involve more than 10 people. The way that it is set up, participants in a Skypecast can talk both orally and via text chat. So here is my question. Are there participants in jwsound.net who would be interested, if only to check out how this works, in participating in a Skypecast? It is really easy to set up.The keys to it working are that the people on the call can separate the sound of their speakers from their mic, presumably not a problem for this crowd. Also, a Skypecast is public, meaning that anyone can listen in. That said, when people say in a Skypecast description that it is private, as far as I can see, people respect that. Anyone game? For info, see www.skype.com.

Just raising this because Saturday's Gotham Sound seminar, broadcast over the internet with interactive chat, worked quite well, and maybe this technology is also worth exploring. We'd need a volunteer moderator, and a subject that people want to talk about. Might be fun.

Cheers,

Rory
