ADS Posted June 21, 2023 Report Posted June 21, 2023 We have been using the rode videomic NTG's on both our Canon C70's and they had been working perfectly. Our camera ops never had to think about them when turning on the camera since they would turn on as the camera would turn on. However recently we've noticed they stopped turning on automatically when powering up the cameras. That now we have to manually turn them on. The microphones themselves are still working fine, it's just that this feature is no longer working. I've contacted RODE and even updated the firmware and done whatever tasks they had suggested. But in the end this feature still wasn't working and they suggested to just send it in for repairs. I was wondering if anyone has ever come across this issue and was able to fix it themselves. Or ultimately we just send them in for repairs as it may be a hardware fault with the units. Quote
Jim Feeley Posted June 21, 2023 Report Posted June 21, 2023 It looks to me like you're talking about this mic, which has a 3.5mm connection and doesn't support Phantom power (as far as I can tell): https://rode.com/en-us/microphones/on-camera/videomic-ntg No worries, but that's a lower-end mic than most people here use. You might find more uses of that (and equivalent mics), and thus better first-hand knowledge on one of the Facebook groups for the Canon C70 (and R5C, etc). Such as this one: https://www.facebook.com/groups/803699123085625 Maybe someone here will have good advice, though. I hope you can get the issue sorted. Quote

I'll have a look at that group. I know it doesn't support phantom power but it does have an auto feature when plugged in. https://videomicntg.rode.com/support: The VideoMic NTG also has a handy auto power feature. By default, it will automatically power on when connected to a device, or when the connected device turns on, and power off when disconnected from a device, or when the device turns off. Just not sure why this feature stopped working now on both microphones. Problem has been resolved turns out it was something in the camera menu under the audio section which you can choose "mic with power supply". All is well. Quote
