osa Posted January 25, 2024 Report Posted January 25, 2024 Does anyone use a thumb trackball mouse doing audio post that you might recommend that works with Monterey and above? I recently upgraded and seem to have lost my precision movements on the track ball with the Kensington version that I have. I have a feeling they’re software for Apple might be finicky on this operating system Quote
codyman Posted January 26, 2024 Report Posted January 26, 2024 Sounds silly but have you tried physically cleaning the trackball? I have the Kensington Orbit and once in a wall it gets "sticky" and doesn't operate as smoothly till I take the trackball out and clean everything inside. Quote
Philip Perkins Posted January 27, 2024 Report Posted January 27, 2024 When I used to use one of the "big" Kensington balls all the time (with a ball the size of a billiard ball) I would often have to take the ball out of the cavity, clean off the rollers and dust the thing out. The ball picks up grease and dirt and dead skin etc from your fingers, which gets on the ball which then transfers it to the rollers. See if a good cleanout helps you. Quote
Wandering Ear Posted January 28, 2024 Report Posted January 28, 2024 What @codyman and @Philip Perkins said. I've used a thumb track ball before, but I didn't like it. I felt like it was quicker to give me hand fatigue than finger track balls. I've had issues in the past with Kensington's software causing issues, delays, etc. I don't use the software anymore, just the trackball. You can fully uninstall the TrackballWorks software pretty easily to check. Quote

I've had my Orbit forever and love it. The scroll wheel is fantastic and when I'm in Pro Tools, holding shift + the scroll wheel makes horizontal scrolling a breeze in a session. I even converted my wife to an Orbit which she loves for her crazy huge Excel spreadsheets and managing those. Quote
