Hello,

i am about to start a shoot with 2 red komodo X (latest version of the komodo).

I have been shooting with Komodo's in the past and the fan's are not loud.

This latest model though has litteraly no FAN setting into the menu.

I wonder how this new komodo behave in hot summer and long takes.

Any experience anyone?

Thanks

It's not loud and very usuable.

It's quite difficult to determine on wich temp the sensor will callibrate. Usually I do push it quite higher than "normal" (by blocking the intake while in callibration process) so it keeps a higher callibration temp and thus generates less fan noise.

This camera isn't problematic with the fan in my experience (camera guy speaking here). It also do consume much less power than other RED cameras wich means less heat generation.

Thanks for your answer Patrick.

To shoot in the summer if the outside temperature is 40 degrees Celsius, at what temperature do you set the sensor calibration?

Sorry no direct experience but our raptor is not bad at all and I figure for reasons Patrick mentions the Komodo should be at least as good..

Didn't know you couldn't control the fans..  Patrick is the main guy re Red and fans so he is to be trusted 😉

PS For what it is worth we used to black balance our monstro to 45 in summer so it would stay quiet and I felt the pictures looked great.

Luis, how did your shoot go? Any noise, timecode, or other issues with the Komodo X?

On my last shoot with Reds, they used a Raptor XL and the Komodo X. The Komodo X had a built in Ambient ACN card so it was just setting the ACN to the right channel and it all locked in with my Lockit+. The Raptor XL was a standard 5 pin Lemo in for timecode which also made things easy to plug in a lockit box. No more special cables that only get used once in a blue moon. A bit more love from Red at least on the timecode front.

On the fan noise front there was no problems and all tracks were quiet.

@Jim Feeley after a 4 month shoot i have to say the Komodo is pretty quiet.

We did not had issues with Timecode.

On hot days i would hear the camera a little bit and ask the 1rst AC to recalibrate.

Overall thats fine.
