inspire Posted August 7, 2025 Author Report Posted August 7, 2025 First test with a 40 cm helium balloon: I tested a 40 cm helium balloon without microphones but with a small weight equivalent to the DPA 6060 + AIR1 windshield (~8g). The balloon was able to lift it without any problem. However, even a light breeze caused significant movement, making it clear that wind is a major issue for this setup. In calm conditions it might work, so I plan to test it again in the evening when the wind is lower – this time with the actual microphone attached. Second test with helium balloon and mic – more promising I ran another test in my backyard, this time with the helium balloon carrying the DPA 6060 mic + AIR1 suspension. There was no wind, and the setup was stable and promising. So, this concept can work if conditions are ideal. However, I’ll stick to using a regular stand for the upcoming drag race event – even a light breeze would be a big issue, and such a setup wouldn’t be suitable with large crowds or in a high-risk environment. https://youtu.be/Ki0oveaBlBc Quote
inspire Posted August 29, 2025 Author Report Posted August 29, 2025 I’ll add some pictures from when I went to record a drag racing event. Quote
inspire Posted September 6, 2025 Author Report Posted September 6, 2025 Here is the first photo recording I cleaned up in the post. Note where the DPA 4055 Kick-Drum Microphone is located - low. https://freesound.org/people/inspire153/sounds/825290/ Compared to the voice of the commentator through the loudspeakers the engine voice Gain 39 dB louder! And the last photo test: https://freesound.org/people/inspire153/sounds/822620/ Quote
Izen Ears Posted September 6, 2025 Report Posted September 6, 2025 Oh MAN I want a DPA 4055 so badly! Some jerk had a few for a great price on ebay. After I paid for one, they cancelled the auction and re-listed at a higher rate. The recordings sound great! Quote
