johngooch Posted August 24, 2024 Report Posted August 24, 2024 I am happy owner of Sonosax LC8+. works great with my 8 series SD recorders-- Has anybody been able to program a DAW to work with LC8+? I'd like to get it to work with Reaper.... thx, j. Quote
Tim Bishop Posted August 24, 2024 Report Posted August 24, 2024 Yes, actually DAW control in Reaper was one of the main reasons I got the LC8+! I use it on a Mac and it’s plug and play as a class compliant MIDI device. However, I actually use MaxMSP to convert the values to OSC and apply fader curves so the LC8+ fader markings match Reaper’s faders. Quote
johngooch Posted August 25, 2024 Author Report Posted August 25, 2024 i am really new to Midi devices w/daws.. Can i use one of the generic control surface drivers to link Reaper to LC8? When i go to MIdi input and MIdi Output- i am able to see the LC8 as an option. Not sure next step.. sorry for basic question... thanks! j Sorry for confusing picture-- i did not choose the Behringer BCF2000-- I tried Mackie Control Universal. Quote
Tim Bishop Posted August 25, 2024 Report Posted August 25, 2024 To be honest I don’t often use MIDI in Reaper as I prefer OSC so I’m not the best person to answer this. But, I usually just select Mackie Control Universal for a MIDI device not on that list, and I think that’s probably what I did when I first got the LC8+ and used it in Reaper over MIDI. The rest of the settings are the most important anyway (enabling it for input and control input). You don’t need to worry about MIDI output back to the LC8+, although maybe you can find the right MIDI value to turn on/off the LC8+ record light this way! Next step is to go to the Actions List and then assign each fader/button on the LC8+ to what you want to control in Reaper (e.g. the Rec button for Record, Fader 1 for Track Volume 1, etc.). You select an action, choose custom shortcut then move the control you want and it should map it correctly (just as if you were applying a keyboard shortcut). If you want to map to FX parameters then you do this on the FX window under the Param and Learn buttons. You move the plug-in control you want with the mouse then can use Param and Learn to bring up a dialogue to assign it to the MIDI value you send from the LC8+. I do find Reaper a bit clunky for MIDI mapping in general though which is why I go with converting to OSC first. Quote
johngooch Posted August 25, 2024 Author Report Posted August 25, 2024 Thanks again Tim--- i have a lot to learn.. i am starting from ground floor. I have time to learn 🙂 Quote
johngooch Posted August 25, 2024 Author Report Posted August 25, 2024 All working well now--- the Reaper tutorials are really fantastic. Thanks Tim! Quote
Tim Bishop Posted August 28, 2024 Report Posted August 28, 2024 Great to hear it’s all working John! And, yes, the Reaper tutorials really are great. Nice to know I’m not the only one enjoying Sonosax quality with Reaper as well Quote
inspire Posted August 29, 2024 Report Posted August 29, 2024 For me, Reaper works well with my Portacapture X8 recorder and it uses the ASIO drver. Plug and play. I watched that it is a little more difficult to do it with MIDI: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zNp6r2T1r30 Options->Preferences->MIDI Devices And ENABLE MIDI USB MODE SX-LC8+ / USB MIDI: https://sonosax.ch/product/sx-lc8/ (I have no personal experience with Sonosax) Quote
