osa
Curious if anyone has suggestions for safe, compact and efficient storage of different size preamps and capsules? Something i can store inside a pelican with other bits, etc
Constantin
Schoeps themselves sell these little plastic screw top tubes for their capsules. I use these all the time for Schoeps. They have them in different sizes, but nothing long enough to fit a interference tube, afaik. As you probably know, it’s best practice to keep capsules on preamps at all times, but if that doesn’t work, those tubes are ideal. They also sell these tubes that can be untwisted in the middle (sorry, finding it really difficult to describe in English) and are large enough for shotgun mics. Similar to what Rycote sold a few years ago with their mic storage solution that I forgot the name of. The Schoeps solutions are probably only suitable for mics and capsules with a slightly larger circumference, so DPA mics at 19mm won’t really fit
osa
Good point i do have 1x loose capsule that should have a preamp vs swapping and leaving others bare.

Philip Perkins
The Rycote (McMaster Carr) tubes have been great for travel with Schoeps mics, and they live in them when at home in the mic case. You can get ones long enough to accommodate a mic with a lot of accessories, we have them for CMC6+DZC10+GVC+capsule. For my 416 I made my own tube from PVC plumbing pipe. Kind of heavy, was good for a mic down in the bottom of a case..
tourtelot
Here is a page for the McMaster Carr for a tube that specifically fits the DPA 40xx mics. It will give you a starting point for other tubes. https://www.mcmaster.com/2108T22/ I use these for my DPAs and Neumann SDC. I use the Schoeps tubes for Schoeps heads. Schoeps boxes for mic pairs. Be aware, I use no foam in these tubes since the mics fit in rattle-free. I have been reading lately about some foams off-gassing and ruining mic diaphragms. D. DanieldH
I think the McMaster tube and the thing Rycote used to offer are from the Rose TwistPack. https://www.rose-plastic.de/en/products/plastic-packaging-tubes/twistpack They have a "plus" version too. Their inquiry form suggests, that they have an MOQ of 1000pcs. I store a Schoeps foam windscreen W170 in one of these from a crayon set (EAN: 4084900309285)

I would much rather have tubes
Eric
I have seen a mixer use unexpanded 2L pop bottles with foam at the bottom/top. https://imgur.com/this-is-2-liter-bottle-before-its-expanded-x87DQye Apparently they ship them like this as it takes up less space. They're blown up and filled with pop at a filling plant. They come with a cap. There may not be the flexibility of sizes here. It held a Schoeps CMC6. I can't remember if it fit the capsule in there too. This site has some dimensions. https://www.homesciencetools.com/product/giant-test-tubes-6-pack/ She got them from Silent Sound in Toronto.
