Derek H
Is anyone covering sound at IBC? Haven’t seen much posted. Is it all on Facebook?
fieldsound
Haven’t seen too much coverage but I’ve been trying to keep an eye out. So far I’ve noticed: - VDB control surfaces for SD 8-Series recorders. They are releasing an 8 and 12 channel version both fully featured with rec/stop switches, slate mic switch, channel mute switches, trim knobs etc. this is filling a big gap in the market! - Schoeps KMIT capsule (essentially a modular cmit for use with amplifiers such as CMD42) - Viviana Cloud 2 —upgraded, collaborative effort with Ambient - DPA 2061. A more budget friendly lavalier without user replaceable filter caps or microdot termination. Comes pre terminated from DPA!
The Documentary Sound Guy
I admit I've been a bit confused about the DPA 2061. It's still pretty pricey for a "budget"-friendly lav. Is the main difference the lack of filter caps? Just wondering what the major difference is compared to the 40xx series.
Derek H
Any video link for the VDB mixer panel? I can’t find anything.

Derek H
Thanks! The VDB mix panel looks great. Hopefully the faders are nice quality. I do wish it had LED input meters above each fader at least and also an output bus meter… that’s the only missed opportunity I really see. Maybe a few extra knobs to control miscellaneous outputs but otherwise looks like a nice option if you don’t like the price or size of the CL16. There’s a lot of people, myself included, that still really like the functionality and size of the CL12 and this looks like a nice alternative to that. Finger 12 though… not sure about that name but whatever. Must be lost in translation.

Unfortunately I don't think we will see these features on any of the 3rd party MIDI/MCU surfaces. Unless they work with SD for a way to get metering info out or audio passthrough. But perhaps you could use SD-Remote on a tablet, somehow rig it just behind the VDB surface (fire up those 3D printers), and use that for some level display (with some latency)? [Edit- let me add that I don't own an 8-series recorder]

Would be so nice to plug in a gooseneck light or power a tablet like Jim Feeley mentioned straight from the control surface. Maybe this is asking for trouble from a power distribution standpoint but it would be convenient!
