Hi, I was wondering if anyone has ever disassembled a PCS boom connector. One of mine does not lock as tight as it should any more. I've been using it in dusty environents, though hardly changing mics on it.

I have a lot of them and 2 broke after a long shoot. I email rycote but no positive answer from them.

They become giggly on the long run. But even though i prefer them to the ambient one's.

Let me know if you manage to fix it.

There is a torx screw behind the rubber cover inside the base. It needs to be tightened every so often. T20 with a locking pin I think.

Thanks guys.

I did dis- and reassemble the unit, though without any change.

However, we have different versions around, a grey blueish and a darker blue greyish. I guess these are different batches.

Our darker ones all seem to have a less tight grip.

The mentioned screw is glued but can be loosened with enough force.

The primary reason we abandoned these and switched to Orca (Noga) and never looked back. Ambients are even worse.

I guess it's user error? but I had two of them lock up on me and the last one caused me to miss a critical shot, so they were retired. Shortly after I helped a fellow mixer as 2nd boom for a large scene and he had the Orcas and they were fantastic. Very small and light, one hand function, and simple enough of a design that a lockup seems improbable.

Don’t let them snap onto a mic mount. That’s when they can lockup. Hold it with your hand a bit so that it locks a little slower.

Glad to hear the orca ones are nice. I tried the sound guy solutions cam style ones years ago which worked ok but I found that I liked the ambients better and also that’s what everyone else in town was/is using.

Did it helped or not at all?

Was it hard to reassemble?

Not at all. I was hoping to find and remove a foreign body, but there was none.

Not hard at all. But I needed a second attempt to tighten the screw as the thread is quite tight.
